Urinary Problems from Treatment???

I have been urinating frequently lately; particularly at night. Has anyone had this problem and is it a definite side-effect of treatment and will it go away?

Here is an update on my treatment. I am Geontype 1 and re-treating in week 31 of 48 weeks of treatment with Peg-Intron + Reebotol (full dose). Shortly before the current treatment I treated for 36 weeks with a reduced dose of Pegasys + Copegus (reduced due to side-effects and bad advice) and respnded to the treatment but then relapsed. For the current treatment I was UND at weeks 6, 12, and 30. I have had many of the side-effects; anemia, brain fog, fevers, cough, etc but the last two weeks, I have been urinating often. I am not taking AD's.

I have 18 weeks to go on this re-treatment and want to see it through at the full dose. Any thoughts or experiences with this urinary problem is appreciated.

Once again, thanks to all the members of the MedHelp Forums. Although I have not been one of the more prolific writers on the forums, I have been reading regularly and have founds the members' responses valuable.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences with this urination problem. I too believe it my be caused by the INT/RIB drugs since there are so many side-effects from these medications. But to be sure I went and spoke to a urologist this morning who is familiar with my case.

From today's visit, this urologist could not say if my urination problem is due to the hcv treatment or if it is some other problem. He had me give a urine sample and also took blood for tests. Also, he scheduled an ultrasound for my bladder to see if that shows anything. I have to drink 4 glasses of water before the ultrasound so my bladder is full.

I'll let the grou p know how this problem resolves. Thanks again and I look forward to more exchanges.

So well said epi!  That's me also!  I have run into the bathroom door once, some one closed it the last time they were in there, so the flush wouldn't wake up hubby! Still have a headache from it!

Oh then about 3 am 230, I wake up, I see a slight bit of light from the window, So I turn and turn,  Then finally start to doze, Hubbys alarm goes off!

Yeah ya gotta laugh!

Hehe, yup, that's me in the middle of the night too.  I don't how that shoe got there that I just fell over that made me crash into the ensuite door, and then my head hurts, and then I trip over the box on the way back to the bed that I was sure I moved earlier!  I can't turn the lights on cos I don't want to wake hubby, but I wake him anyway!!!

Gotta laugh, eh?!

Oh my gosh...I thought it was just ME!

I, obviously, go to the bathroom more often because I'm drinking a LOT more water but the number of times I have to get up at night is ridiculous and, as Linda said, it's "when you gotta go, you GOTTA GO!"   I too tried stopping my water intake earlier in the evening but it didn't make any difference at all to the number of times I get up at night.  It's just go-go-go.

During the daytime it's lucky for me that my office at work is situated right next to the women's bathroom so I can sneak in and sneak out of there all day long and no one really has to notice.

I have only had two UTI's in my entire life (I'm 54 this month) but two months into treatment I got a UTI.  I know that had something to do with treatment.  I got it treated with Cipro and it cleared immediately, thank goodness.

Oh yes, I must get up about every 2 hours to visit the bathroom.  I tried stopping my water intake a lot earlier in the evening but find that it really doesn't help.  Funny, when I have to go, I have to go, there's no holding it for a few minutes, I'm on the run.   I totally believe that it's due to the medication.  I just completed my 10th shot and this started right from the beginning.

Good luck, you don't have much longer to go....lucky you!

Don't worry, this happens frequently to people while treating, it's most def a side effect.

When I asked my nurse specialist about it she said the tx meds inhibit the production of the hormone that our body secretes at night that stops us having to urinate.

It will return to normal after treatment.

All the best

Epi :)
