shot #3

Shot number three and no  sides. Irritability maxes at 24 hours after injection.  I just avoid human contact during that time. Riba is working me over pretty good. Roaring in ears, dizziness, that about to pass-out feeling. But it's manageable. I've got no complaints. I worked all day yesterday. I'm not sure, but I think I accidentally took a double dose the other day via confusion... I'll check in later.

I am on TX (week 18 of 48) and I saw an Endocrinologist at about week 4 because my of my thryroid levels.  That doctor told me to definitely take Calcium +D supplements (1200 of calcium and 400 of D per day) but to time it so that it is taken 4-5 hours after my thyroid med or my riba.

I know the talk about calcium intefering with absorption (in fact it's known to inhibit the absorption of thyroid meds too) BUT it is possible to time it so that you take the calcium supplements at least 4-5 hours before or after the other meds and I am careful to do that.

I also take a multi-vitamin WITHOUT iron and my docs are fine with that.

I'm confused. What about all the calcium I see people on the forum being encouraged to eat? (Mainly ice cream.)

I'm on a study and they asked me what I'm taking and just wrote it all down without telling me I couldn't use any of it. I'm on some Super B's--which I have been using because they are good for mouth sores and I was getting cracks in the corners already (I also just did my 3rd shot last week).

Hello!
Hey, Rocker is right. I was told to take the vitamins and B's by my Dr, but they had to be from organic (absorbable) sources. Also, I was told NO iron or Calcium supplements during txing. Iron, other than what comes from your diet, is difficult for the liver to process, and the calcium can partially "absorb" (neutralize?) whatever medicine or supplement that is taken with it. Oh, by the way, my husband got me an "enter at your own risk" sign when I turned into the "dragon lady" while on treatment...I'll be happy to "bequeath" it to you in your hour of need! LOL Hang onto your sense of humor...:)

Do you have a pill box with am/pm and days of the week? I remember being so brain-fogged, I couldn't recall if or when I took my doses, and this thing was a life-saver...Also, I'm presuming you are on 800 mg riba? If so, it can be spread through the day (1 200 mg dose with each meal, and a bedtime snack.) You may find this gives you fewer sides, and also ensures you eat a bit of something with each dose...In case you didn't get the diet tips...Riba is better absorbed when taken with food that has a bit of fat with it. Healthy fats like avacados, nuts, ice cream, cottage cheese, a roll with real butter (and, no, this isn't an excuse to go crazy on the saturated fats!) etc. or pasta with alfredo sauce (or whatever your pleasure) usually go down nicely and stay down. Even a milkshake with added protein powder is good...
And, don't forget the water! Lots and LOTS of water! If you can and you aren't, take a good multivitamin plus a B-complex (no calcium or iron with the riba!)
If/ when the itching starts, the combination that gave me the most relief was loratidine tab 10 mg (works 12 hours) for the day, chlorophineramine (I can't remember the brand name) for night, and Aveeno after bath and body oil after warm (not hot) showers...beware of anemia onset at the 4-6 week mark (tell-tale signs of shortness of breath, persisting fatigue, heart pounding when you do anything, dizziness, and possibly feeling cold. If you start feeling hot all of the time, your blood pressure and heart rate stays elevated even while resting, and you have loose stools (sometimes happens around week #10 or later), get your thyroid levels checked. If the Peg has ticked off your thyroid, the problems resulting from that can become life threatening...
Dang, I'm long-winded...LOL Well, good luck with your treatment, and may you have few sides...I'm crossing my fingers for SVR in two weeks! Whoo hoo! Die Dragon DIE!
