There is not enough alcohol in non-alcoholic beer to equal a drop even.

First: in response to some earlier posts, it is OFTEN true, BUT NOT ALWAYS true that "non-alcoholic" beers still contain alcohol.   You have to read the labels.  Zero percent beers exist.

Second: I am a fan of Beck's "Non-Alcoholic" beer (that is the name of the brand). It contains zero percent alcohol (0.0%). I am looking at the label as I write this. Beck's Non-Al. is the only one I've seen locally here in Canada that is zero percent. All the others seem to have some small percentage. I think Beck's may also make another near-beer (Blue?) that contains a small percentage. Read the labels to make sure you know which one you're getting.

Beck's Non-Alcoholic beer tastes pretty good, too. BTW, I am not endorsed by Beck's. I have a friend who (for health reasons) was told by doctors one day that he can't drink any alcohol at all, also no caffeine, and other food limitations - depressing to cut out everything all at once. He won't risk the low-percentage beers. Finding Beck's Non-Al. was a godsend!

I'm thankful that Beck's makes a product that gives some joy back to those who can no longer have alcohol. Beck's could do a better job of promoting this brand - people don't seem to know about it.

Supermarkets here often carry it, but restos and bars only rarely. I specifically ask restos/bars if they carry the brand and make a point of noting the 0.0% alcohol content, hoping that they will be pestered by enough people to start carrying 0% beers and rather than other labelled "non-alcoholic beers" that still contain alcohol (talk about the most stupid labelling allowance IMHO, but that's another story.)

I have seen people milk a snake for it's venom ... I can't even begin to figure out how one would relieve a snake of it's pee let alone have the patience to accumulate a pint of it and have the notion to quaff it down.   How many snakes does it take to get a pint of Snakepee Brew anyway?  It must have a helluva buzz - maybe a little venom seeps into the pee? - or do you drink it for the medicinal properties?

You are a man of strange and mysterious ways, Rocker.

When I was in the Middle East I found this alchohol free beer under the Israeli label of "Malty". I quite liked it and it was made in a non-alchoholic process rather than having most of the alchohol removed as in American brews. It was popular with the Muslims there.  I have not seen this in the U.S.

I have seen a brew in a local German deli called "Vita-Maltz" which I believe is 0% alchohol. You might find this in the U.S. I guess it doesn't really taste like real beer, but I liked it.

Rocker: Last beer buzz for me was in 1972. Had nothing like beer until I discovered the "Malty" in Israel in 2005. I like the taste of the malt beverages above. I will have to take your word for it on the comparison to "snake pee". ;-)

We don't have too many grocery stores around here. I ususally drink my beer at Canteloupes, the bar around the corner. Sometimes I go upstairs to the bowling alley, but all they serve is Old Frothingslosh. It's a NA draft beer with the head on the bottom..

"only real reason we drink beer it to get a buzz, but most wot admit it,,"

I drink it because it's a great thirst quencher on a hot day on occasion and beats even my soda water with lime on some days. I don't actually like the 'buzz' because the alcohol content on a hot day makes me drowsy and that's not what I'm after. The non-alcoholic beer I like is a store brand version of a Rickard's Red.

Where do you guys get all this selection from???  Is this in a grocery store or where?

G'Dad:
I'd forgotten about Clausthaler. We don't get any of those froo froo high $ brews here in Far Out West Texas. Now I've got something else to look forward to next time I'm in the Bay Area.

Rocker:
When it's 110+ degrees for weeks on end and you can't have sugar and aspartame makes you gag, a cold, frothy, bottle of snake pee is mighty tasty.

My peference is very clear (to me): St Pauli, followed by Becks, followed by Clausthaller or however that's spelled. I generally limit myself to 1 per day. Rarely I might have 2 in a day - which is what, about one good swallow of real beer?

"It actually has 0.5% alcohol."
It's actuall < 0.5%. How much less is anyone's guess....

"In Germany they have 2 categories for that one is alcohol  (0.5%) and the other is 0% Alcohol beer. I love to drink 0% its actually not bad at all"

I wish we had that.

As long as you don't have alcoholism in your history (cause yes as Susan said that fake beer can certainly lead to craving other 'real' beer for sure).  Otherwise if it's just a once in a while thing while you are on treatment or something I don't see a problem with it.

From what I understand there is even a small portion of alcohol in real rootbeer.....but that wouldn't make me crave a beer or anything.

I dont think it's enough to do anything that detrimental to you if it's never been a problem before but of course not like pounding a 12 pack of them a day (not that i could imagine why anybody would want to do that LOL).

My answer is "No".  First off because non-alcoholic beer still contains some alcohol, just not near as much as regular beer.  Second of all, I'm trying to watch my weight and beer is not good for the waist line.  And 3rd, if I started messing around with drinking beer, getting that taste in my mouth would make me want the real thing more and I don't need to go down that road.  This is not a lecture on anyone, this is just what is my life choice.   Susan400

Beck makes the best by far.  My doc said I could drink it as long as I only had 1 or 2 at a time.  The taste is not like real bear, but it is good.

if you want to be a real stickler , alcohol free beer is not alcohol free !

It just fullfills the legal requirements to be called alcohol free. It actually has

0.5% alcohol. In Germany they have 2 categories for that one is alcohol  (0.5%)

and the other is 0% Alcohol beer. I love to drink 0% its actually not bad at all

unfortunately have not seen it is the US.
