One more Day

Hub is down to his next-to-last day on Incivek - so glad to be reaching this milestone.  Still have the riba/peg routine, but the Incivek was a real challenge to him and I am so proud of him for sticking with it!  He said he will never eat fat again!!  Thanks for all of the help on these boards - I don't post much but I read a lot and it has helped him many times to find out that others suffer with the same side effects as he has. It has really been appreciated and has helped to take some of the scariness of treatment away. Onward and upward!

Thanks Karen! He had some good hours this week and I think it will continue to get a little better ( except for the shot hangover - yikes! lol) My poor baby!

Thanks Dee - The fat sounds easy at first, but when you HAVE to eat fat it is a lot different than just indulging once in a while.  I think it will be a loooong time before hub wants anything with peanut butter in it! Glad to report he had no problems coming off the Incivek.  He's still eating fats but just in proportion to his diet - some mayo, but not two tablespoons.  And he is still eating cheese.  Thanks for your good thoughts  Did you know that pansies mean "thoughts" in the language of flowers?  Very appropriate - you seem to think of and write to a lot of posters here.

The Incivek part was the worst, so happy for you and your husband.
I hated all that fat.  I think you are right to taper off the fats after he is done. He still wants to process the Incivek, I will be thinking of you

Thanks Jules.  I hope things improve for him.  Last night was shot night so he's pretty zoned out today. we'll see how he feels by the end of the week.  Its such freedom not to be watching the clock and counting fat grams!

I think you're right about the riba and fat, for better absorption.  Just not as much and not three freakin' times a day!  lol those 10 pm fat intakes were really hard some nights. Thanks billy - we'll continue to take care of hub's skin on the outside, and hopefully everything will slowly resolve itself once treatment is done.

Thanks so much.  I have a complete arsenal of anti-itch cremes, pastes, tabs, wipes,non- soap etc on hand from his beginning days, when his entire body erupted in rash that went away after a few weeks.  He did the 48 wk soc about two years ago and we'll be watching for those sides, but I too think he will feel better once the incivek leaves his system.  Two more doses left!!

congratulations too.
Just to reiterate what juli said - I slowly weaned myself off the fat but still got a lovely leaving present from the incivek. Maybe just be prepared by having the cream and antihistamine tabs on standby in case your hubby gets the itch.
He will feel better once off the incivek - he will probably still have sx from the riba and interferon but the difference is like night and day.
All the best for the rest of tx.

thanks so much- my husband really appreciates the advice.  He's going to wean off the fat slowly, even though he'd like to change his eating habits instantly.

Congratulations to you and your husband on finishing Incivek. It is a very demanding and tough treatment. When I finished, I got a severe itch that lasted about three days. Hopefully he won't get it, but just letting you know that it does go away. Others have had a similar experience. Your lives will be much better after Incivek and he should feel better.
