I was not able to quit completely after my accident and all the meds they put me on.  Instead I went to a psychiatrist in a rehab hospital and had him put me on suboxone - that is like methadone for the working man.  I can't say it's a perfect scenario and eventually I will have to withdraw off of that as well but it's a lot better than taking oxy and fent. As you know you need more and more and more to get any relief and a lot of the time the pain meds actually make your pain worse after years of being on them.

If you are able to go through withdrawl that is the best thing but I did want you to know there are alternatives as well.  I have / had hepc and have been cured for over three years.  None of this is easy but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

I wish you the best of luck with all of it!

PS Withdrawl scares me big time too I am sure it scares every single one of us, you aren't alone!

i wonder if you've quit any drugs before?....back in the late 60's early 70's i use to help heroin addicts go through withdrawals as there were many of them in our town...it was a couple days real bad and was very helpful to have someone with them...but not life threatening like alcohol withdrawal can be...the physical addition was over fast (2 to 3 days)but the mental addition and anxiety would be so tough..bottom line i would see a doctor to get some meds and have someone right with you...i broke both of my feet bad and went on vicodin...i ate them like candy...sometimes 5 at a time the pain was bad...about 2 months went by and i was shut off...stopped cold turkey...that was tough althouigh i knew what i was in for...by far the worse thing i did was stop drinking...i should have gotten help...the withdrawals were awfull..i had read later that the hep c could make withdrawals 7 times worse then folks without hep so be carefull.....i didn't even drink for that many years but the last few i was a nightime alcoholic drinking vodka...i think you go into it prepared expecting a real tough time with help from a doctor and someone with you the first few days...also help from the addiction fourms as well as the hep c sites...good luck you'll feel a lot better soon...billy

I broke my back when I was 18 skiing moguls and hotdoggin in Colorodo.  Three crushed lumbar vertebrae.  Spinal fusion in 1971.  Young and healed well but I now have some arthritis and spinal stenosis.  Have refused to take pain meds for years because of the addiction factor and there are times the pain is intolerable.  It was especially difficult when I underwent antiviral therapy.  Seemed to exacerbate the condition.

I hope somehow you find a way to manage the pain without narcotics.  Yes, you can detox with hepc. It's will be difficult but if you are serious you will get through it.  Long term use of any drug is not good for the liver, especially those of who have hepc.

Good Luck
