Funny you mention that! I
had a terrible experience shortly after transplant. I was trying very hard to dring 4 to 6 liters of water a day because of all the meds, etc. I started having terrible difficulty to the point that smelling water would cause me to panic like I was drowning. I actually saw the shrink about this. Maybe this panic/anxiety is where the "waterboard torture" comes from. It would work on me!
Now I just try to stay hydrated and do not force it. No problems.

My doc said I was drinking too much water. depleting the sodium from my system and making it harder to stay hydrated. She is having me put some gatorade in my diet instead of some of the water. I think it has helped.

I agree with nygirl, all fluids count. Perhaps a bit of moderation is in order.
I was surprised to learn that ice cream counts as fluid. Of course, that could get to be like the pizza addiction and make you miserable. Plus there's the alergic reaction...it makes you (me anyhow) break out in fat!!!
My doc actually said that though water is the best you should count in other fluids you are taking in during the day too. That helped me quite a bit because I was probably drinking way too much at first.....
Chug chug chugging water was one of the hardest parts of treatment.
I am feeling that way now, exactly, like when I used to be a pizza addict, that miserable full beyond my stomachs limits. Yes and gas also.
Also, I have noticed that if drink too much around my riba meals I feel really bloated and waterlogged, it's a pretty horrible feeling...
I am so glad someone has posted about this!!! You hear a lot of people say drink as much water as you can while on treatment, and I have even heard some people say up to a gallon a day! Phew! I tried that and felt so water logged it wasn't funny... And I have also heard of people drowning themselves from drinking too much water; there have been many reports of this happening with people who use the drug ecstasy and over hydrate.
That being said I have to agree that drinking 'enough' water really helps my sx; if I don't drink enough water I feel more fatigued, my muscles and joints ache, my mouth is like a desert storm, and my skin itches as if there are fire ants crawling all over me!!!
I found the following guideline to how much water to drink and have found it very useful:
Halve your weight in pounds and drink that amount in ounces per 24 hours. Eg: You weigh 140lbs so you drink 70 ounces of water in the course of a 24 hour period. Obviously if you use the metric system you will have to convert kilos to pounds to ounces and back to litres but there are plenty of online converters to do that for you.
One gallon of water equals just over 4 litres of water and there was no way I could drink that. Using the above equation I now aim to drink to 2.5 litres of cool, still, water each day and it seems to be the right amount for me...
Actually, to be blunt, you CAN die from drinking too much water. I was a runner before starting treatment and water gives you oxygen for running ... some people have died in foot races from hydrating TOO much. So stick with a reasonable amount, beyond that I'm not sure that it's much of a positive and could very well be a negative.
Hope that helps.
Trish
Actually I drink around 3 litre bottles with a little time in between.
All at once?
WOW!!!
Go slower --- drink glasses --- all day long...
Or bottles...
Not in one big SWOOSH...
Dang no wonder your poor throat is rebelling.... LOL!
