I'd also start collecting your own hard copy of all tests and procedures, including blood tests, actual biopsy report, ultraound test reports if any, etc.

Also, request your original biopsy slide set. This may take a little time but ideally you will want to have them when you see your hepatologist, in fact many of them appreciate it if you send them in advance so they can have their own pathologist look at it.

My personal recommendation is to get the slide set yourself (usually 4-6 slides) and then deliver them to your hepatologist, as opposed to relying on the doctor's office. Also, you wrote in an earlier post "heptologist?" -- so I'd definitely check to make sure you're seeing a hepatologist and not another internist or GI.

All the best,

-- Jim

If you haven't left, maybe add an "HIV" screen. I ended up requesting one after treatment but I'm surprised they didn't order one prior to treatment. As Bill mentioned, sometimes the genotype test is "indeterminate" and possibly your hepatologist will order a different genotype test but don't know too much about that. Meanwhile, can't see the harm in re-doing the genotype test.

The particular study I mentioned above seems to have gotten away from me for the moment. Here is a link to another study that discusses multiple genotype issues; although it doesn

Hi Missy,

Here are a few suggestions, maybe others will fill in.

(1) Current viral load test such as Quest Diagnostic's "Heptimax". All doctor has to do is write "Heptimax" on an rx or a Quest Requisition form.

(2) I'd do another genotype test since the last one appeared to be unclear.

(3) Complete CBC

(4) Cholesterol Panel including HDL, LDL, Triglicerdies

(5) Thyroid Panel

(6) Iron Stores test including Ferrititn and TransFerrin Saturation.

(7) The alphafetoprotein (AFP) test

Just looked at my Quest lab report and it stated" CBC w/diff and PLT" so I guess make sure they do platelets a swell as Neutrophils, Absolute. Also, you might also want to do an "PT/INR" test for clotting time.

thank you so much.  I just love you
you are so smart.  i wish you were my dr.
i really hope you don't mind but later I would really like to pick your brain.
I'm just very frustrated and feel so misunderstood and mis represented and everything else.
in in a hurry I printed a copy and now I'm on the run
thanks

I'm sure you'll get more answers when you see the hepatologist. Internists often don't know much about HCV but hopefully he'll order as many tests as possible so that when you do see the heaptologist they'll have something to look at.

Please feel better. You have the best advice already given here. Drink plenty of water. If I don't drink enough water the day before and of my shot I get a bad headache. Otherwise I never get them. So glad you got a better doctor. Best wishes to you, I switched at week 11. My viral load went up and I got concerned. I'm very happy with the liver clinic I'm with now.
