treatment and time off from Work

I'm trying to figure out what to tell work if I need more sick time.  The main problem I have is just not being able to manage any kind of productivity for whole days and having trouble keeping up with personal stuff because of same.  I don't want to tell them I have hep but if I take over a certain amount of time off there will be questions about it and might have to get something from doctor.

Any suggestions?

That's the FLMA law

Below is the Americans with Disabilities Law as it applies to hep-c.

I believe your Dr. has to present evidence to the DB company that you can't work, at least, that's what happened in my case.

As long as there is medical authorization, then hep-C should be covered.

Regarding FLMA, you are entitled to 3 months per 12 month calendar period.  That time can be taken concurrently or interspersed through the year.

If you need links to FLMA law, let me know, otherwise just google FLMA and it will give you the specifics.

Also, hep-C falls is covered under theAmericans with Disabilities Act and protection is provided there, as well.

Of course, you will probably have to fight for it, buit at least it exists.

Well we have short and long term disability benefits. I'm not sure how to negotiate that or if it is acceptable for Hep.  The main problem is not that I cant work but that I just can't manage the whole load. Trying to figure out how to get days off past the allotted sick days that would be covered on the disability even if they aren't continuous.

The info you supply to your company regarding your reason for applying for FLMA is confidential and by law it can't affect ANYTHING about your right to return to work.

NYGirl is absolutely right, though, that while you're guaranteed A job, it might not be your original position.

The only people who should be aware of your circumstances are the HR director, if there is one or, I guess, your boss.

I do know HR people are prohibited from disclosing employee medical info to others.

I took FLMA when I was DX'd and started TX, because i wasn't sure how the SX would be.  As it turns out, i haven't been able to return to my original job coz of med related SX, so I also applied for income DB from the plan I've participated in for a number of years.

You have the RIGHT to apply for unpaid time off to attend to your health issues!  Unfortunately, FLMA is applicable only if your company employs a certain minimum number or workers.  I'm not sure what that is.

I've chosen to work like NY - especially since my side effects haven't been so debilitating as others have had them be.

I did however, sign up for FMLA incase I have to use vacation or sick time and run out.  You don't get $$ on fmla, but your protected from disiplinary actions from using all personal time banked.  Sux huh?  Or I was even thinking short term disability, thats only 60% of your pay tho I think.

My company is a real stickler about time off and once the sick days are gone - they are gone end of story you come in unless you are dying OR you go out on Family Medical Leave Act.  Unfortunately, they do require a doctor to fill out the paperwork so you'd have to tell the truth.

Perhaps though you could have a doctor draw it up so that it reads simply that you are on a form of chemotherapy and leave it at that.

Remember though - they have to guaranteee you A job when you return to work but not THE same job that you currently have.  That is why I worked straight through the 72 weeks.........it took me too long to get the job I have to risk either it or my insurance.

Good luck.

you can see if your job has family emergency leave or family leave that you might be able to apply for.
