horse pooping out water

I have a 4 year old mare, when she poops water will come out and run down her legs. Now, her poop is normal. There is just a little water comming out. The strange thing is her mother had this as well. It stoped after she had her secound baby. But her legs and tail are black from it, and she is all white. We have tried changing her diet and nothen is working. The vet dose not know why. Has anyone had this problem with there horse before. We are worreid cause she has a full sister that might get this. It seems like it is a family thing. Like her mother is passing it on to her babys. Can anyone help?

It is more than likely a severe case of Diarreha, but you might want to call a vet out on that one.  I have been working with horses for 18 years now and am currently a Quarter Horse trainer and becoming a judge soon, so I do have some experience with horses.  This sounds like a case of scours actually, but the mare is too old to get scours.  It could be due to a parasite infestation or a type of feed.  A fecal count as well as a diet consisting of hay should be a good course of action. What are you feeding this mare?  What about your deworming program?

I am having the same problem with my 3 year old mare. I was told it can be an indication of sand colic. I have also heard that treatment is 3 weeks of psyllium and one week off. I have had her on psyllium for ten days now but I am still having this problem. I am concerned that this may not be the appropriate course of treatment for her and that this may be an indication of some other condition which would require some other treatment. I certainly do not want to do anything that will harm her. Anyone else know anything about this?
