why does society look down on us that have hpv or other diseases?

HI, my question is why does society look down on you when they find out that you have hpv or other diseases?  Im 42yrs old and im a widow and ive started dating again and been with the same man for almost 3yrs now.  I did the yearly pap and was told that i have hpv and i was very shocked, i have no idea on how i got it and i felt dirty afterwards and i still do.  I keep tryin to figure out how, why and when and with whom but all the doctor would tell me is through sex and thats it.  For the past 4yrs my immune system has been very low.  My husband died in 2006 and i know my weight went to at least 100 pounds but im in the 130 range.   After ive been reading this forum, im finding out the hpv is alot more common than what the society knows.   Im just still afraid and embarrassed to go into the doctors office and certain people know you got a disease.   Sometimes i just wish the society would become more informed before spreading any type of rumors.

It seems to me that society looks down on those who have hpv for the same reason you stated you feel "dirty" for having it yourself.
