Hysterectomy

I am 50 years old. Back in 1995, I had my tubes cut. We did not want any kids. Know I have body parts proturding out of me. I have been to a doctor and she ran some test. I go back to the doctors this friday to find out what is happening. So my question is this. If I have a hysterectomy, seeing how I had my tubes cut and they remove my uterus will I still have monthly periods? Also, we are going on a cruise in Oct, will I be complete healed by then? Thanks for your time.

Greetings patricia1204,

If you have complete removal of your uterus and cervix you will no longer have monthly menses. As far as healing goes, it depends on the nature of your surgery and your overall health. Minimally invasive surgery may have a recovery time of 2 weeks, well as a non-minimally invasive approach may take as long as 6 weeks.
