Heart and acid reflux

by LovieV, May 26, 2008 12:18AM
hi doc,
I am a female, 22 yrs old, and I was wondering,-QUESTION 1- if I have acid reflux could it make my heart palpitate and make me feel as though my heart is about to pop out if my chest? Every morning my heart wakes me up feeling as though it wants to jump out of my chest. I haven't been to a cardiologist, but I have had extensive work ups done many ekgs and blood test, even an ECHO done and every thing comes back normal and pefect. On top of the acid prob, I have real bad anxiety that has taken a physical toll on my body. -QUESTION 2- If there isn't any thing wrong with my heart but I am still having problems in the chest area should I see a cardio or a psych?
I would greatly appreciate an answer. Thanks

A 24 hour holter monitor would give you an answer to the type of palpitations you are having.  Sometimes stress can cause arrhythmias.  If you don't have these every day then an event monitor might be of value.

hi i  have had pac/pvc for 23 years and yes when my acid reflux is acting up i have more heart paps, they do go hand in hand for me not always but most of the time. yes anxiety will cause your heart to do this to, its the number one cause of heart pounding , fast beats skiped beats. so if you can get the anxiety and acid under control it will to . but if i was you i would go see a cardio and get a heart montor wear it 30 days let them catch the problem and than you will know for sure  what it is. but am sure at 22 your fine.

Can I exercise with a heart arrhythmia?
Since march I have gone under a lot of stress and my health seems as if it is just going down hill. I am stressing over my health because I don't know or don't want to believe that it is anxiety causing me to feel so unhealthy. My blood pressure is either 120-115/80-75 which by any doctor is perfect blood pressure.
The crazy thing is I haven't been able to eat for about three months like I want to and I thought that would show some change in my blood pressure.
I am on 20mg prilosec and .25mg xanax could those have any effect on my pounding heart? And when my mind is not on my heart its not pounding.
