Is there any man in mid-50's that has had a ureteral reimplantation?

I am a 54 year old male that has scar tissue in the lower left ureter. My left kidney function is at 31 percent. I have been told that the reimplantation will help prevent the kidney from getting more damaged. Is there any male out there around my age that has had this done and had experienced a good recovery and not had long term complications from the surgery. I know that it is good to save the kidney but don't want to live with complications after having surgery for the rest of my life.
