Sorry to hear that! What will they do now to unblock it?
How are you? Stents are left to make sure that the kidney drains well. Except in very selected circumstances, stents should never be in the body for longer than 3 months. They are usually removed in a brief procedure in the urologist's office. Stents that remain in too long can become encrusted which requires a surgical procedure to remove the stent and encrustations. After stent removal, expect a brief increase in back pain, bladder symptoms disappear within 24-48 hours, and blood in urine disappears within 2-4 days.
I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
Its hard to say how long a stent will last, they can stay in as long as 6 months if needed. I have had 10 surgeries on my kidneys to only find out that I have a birth defect in my left kidney. I can usually keep a stent for a month, but they to tend to get blocked and have to be surgically removed. Be aware though, that after they do remove the stent that there will be swelling and there could yet be another need for a stent.
