I also have FSGS and had NO symptoms other than protein in my urine.  After a few years, I finally had my kidneys biopsied and got the FSGS diagnosis.  I have had this for almost 10 years now and my last visit was a little over a  week ago and I am still doing very well.  No problems whatsoever, but still have a large amount of protein in my urine.

I am sorry to say that protein in my urine was the 1st step to finding out I have Kidney Disease. FSGS to be exact. Please look it up. The earlier they catch it the better. Also watch for swelling in the face, hands, and feet. Another symptom I kept having was low back pain. I found out later I was also Diabetic.

Dr. Santos,
Thank you again for your fast response and providing a link

My question is

I was given steriod blocks by pain management for slipped discs in my neck
I was given (2) steriod blocks after 2 months of exposure. Then the procedure was repeated 2 months again, I was also given a cortisone injection into my arm.

since steriods supress the immune system can steriods delay the body from making anti-bodies

So my question to you specifically is can steriod injections delay the body from making anti-bodies making my tests a false negative at 6 months? I do have protien in my blood and urine. Thank you for your time regarding this tough question.

Hi,
In sexually transmitted diseases, those that cause significant kidney disease are of viral origin. The primary causes are HIV-1, HBV, and HCV. You can read about this study through this link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15844383
Take care and do update us with your results.

Thank you very much for your response and website information.

it's unfortuante that the first doctor  Dr. Carmela Morales at Western Communities medical who was my primary doctor tested my urine and said it was okay, when I asked her if there was protien in it she said oh yeah at level 1 then she refused to do any additional testing and told me to take vitiamins and see her in 3 months!

So I made an appointment with  P.A. Ronald Golden at Nephrology Associates, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
who is  doing proper blood work on me and sending my urine to the lab. The Kidney doctor was concerned with my dark copper/orange tint color urine. I am glad I was able to find a doctor who was willing to work with me and do the proper lab work. I am just tired of doctors who refuse to do any type of testing to check for diseases or disorders etc. yet act like they have helped you. Finding a doctor today  who wants to do the right job is very difficult task at hand.

How are you? Proteinuria is an abnormally high amount of protein in the urine. Proteins from the blood can escape into the urine when the filters of the kidney, called glomeruli, are damaged. These are the most common causes: high blood pressure, infection, reflux nephropathy, diabetes, glomerulonephritis or minimal change nephritis. The first goal of treatment is to treat the underlying cause. It is important that anyone with proteinuria is monitored regularly. You can read more about this through this link: http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/proteinuria/

Take care and regards.
