Lymphoma or Sarcoid ?

Hi All,

First post here , hoping I can get some advice , I have enlarged lymph nodes in 4 different ares (mensteric , Groin , Submandular & mediastinal) for the last 2 months, I and heve been treated with anti-biotics but nodes still enlarged , my recent follow up CT scan also revealed mediastinal lymphadenopathy , paratracheal nodes enlarged , subcarinal lymphadenopathy but no mention of Hiliar adenopathy , also mentioned was "minor scarring at the apex of the right lung and irregular nodule centrally in the  right apex of 1 x 2.9 cm which may represent scarring but a small irregular mass lesion cannot be excluded" , I wondering would this be looking like a sarcoid case? my understanding is that Hiliar adenopathy would need to be present to make a Sarcoid diagnosis? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I am very glad to hear they are doing a biopsy and a PET. The PET scan will show up any cancer in your body no matter how small and the biopsy will also let you know if it is cancer.
Ok here is my first CT results.......No intrapulmonary mass lesion is identified. A large lobulated anterior mediastinal mass consistent with massive lymph node enlargement is demonstrated, the anterior mediastinal mass is continuous with a large lobulated mass contiguous with the right heart border extending from the lateral margin of the SVC to the diaphragmatic margin anteriorly. The upper mediastinal mass measuring up to approximately 5.8cm in AP diameter and over 11cm in transverse diameter with lymph mode mass extending from the thoracic inlet to pericardial fat just above the diaphragm. No posterior mediastinal involment identified. There is no pleural effusion. No axillary adenopathy found.
In view of the findings CT abdomen was also performed.
Spleen appears of normal size, there is elevation of the left hemi diaphragm. Ne hepatic lesion is identified. No pancreatic lesion is found. No adrenal or significant renal lesion is identified. No intra abdominal adenopathy found. There is no ascites. No inguinal adenopathy identified.
Conclusion- Massive mediastinal lymph node enlargement as described. Appearances most likely due to Hodgkin's lymphoma. No subdiaphragmatic disease identified. Diaphragmatic elevation moted on the left.

There you go that is the whole report for my first CT.
After having a PET/Lung Biopsy and bone marrow biopsy they came to the conclusion I had a large defussed B Cell non hodgkin's lymphoma.

I am the same as you have never smoked in my life and it was strange hearing them say I had lung cancer. The funny thing with me is I was so healthy and had no symptoms not one. The only thing I had was a dry cough I couldn't get rid of and it was because I had a lump on my windpipe that was causing me to cough. My doctor thought I had a virus and 2 lots of antibotics didn't get rid of it so he said well an xray is all we can do and it showed up the masses on my lungs. Didn't that night change my life forever.
I know exactly what you are going through and I hope it isn't
lymphoma but if there is anything else you want to know I am happy to tell you anything as I couldn't find anyone to talk to when I was going through it and it was so frustrating. I had so many questions and no answers it was like being in the dark all of the time.
Ok let me know how you go. Good Luck. Toni

Hi,

Thank you for your comments, at the moment I am waiting to see a chest specialist following the recent CT results, the Gastro doc said that she will probably do a biopsy / PET /CT at this stage, he did mention Sarcoidosis but I know people with that and I don’t seem to have the symptoms , my other symptoms are shortness’ of breath , excessive sweating no night sweats but do feel warm all the time , really low energy and abdominal discomfort ,pains across my shoulders and chest , was recently diagnosed also with Helicobactor pyroi and just finished yet more anti-biotics , nodes on my left cervical are getting bigger in the last 2 weeks , worried also about the irregular nodule on my lung , I am a non smoker so this is a bit puzzling , can you remember your CT results and were they similar to mine? I just feel I am heading down the lymphoma road and I get the feeling the Doc's are sugar coating this a bit at the moment , best wishes and thanks for reading.

Hi There, I had Lymphoma last year but was very lucky as it was just a large defused B Cell on the outside of my lung. It was 11cm which is large and it was cancer of course and I had a smaller one near my windpipe. Have done chemo and radiation and a year later all is good. My question to you is have you been refered to a specialist in cancer or are you still just going to your regular GP? I don't know what Sarcoid is but I do know what Lymphoma is and if you have got that you definately need to get on top of it. It is treatable and it just depends on what stage you have it. It can take up to 4 weeks before they have all of the tests completed before you can start treatment. Do you have any other symptoms? All of the words used to describe your CT scan sound the same as mine. It is sounding like it is heading more towards Lymphoma but you really need to get to a specialist. Good luck let me know how you go.
