Not all CT scans are the same, so there are some differences with their abilities. In general CT scans can detect changes as small as 3-5 mm, whereas a high-resolution scan can detect measurements up to 0.3 mm. I think its unlikely that the repeat would miss it. Take note also that the description on the initial scan was benign (so its no surprise that it is not there anymore) - if this was read as suspicious for malignancy, then more testing may have been recommended.
Screening for Lung cancer is still controversial - it has not shown clear advantages, and there is a concern of radiation exposure from CT scans. Work is being done however, inquire from your doctor if there is a chance for you to participate in studies done in academic centers to address this specific issue.

my nodule was not caught on a CT without contrast..only with the contrast are they finding it. Im wondering if maybe i am okay too !! Dr west??? what do you think
