follow up

by PATTY5290, May 09, 2008 03:08PM
hello dr heinrik,
I am following up my feb posting- I had a 3 mos follow up ct scan yesterday- the original 2 noduled on rght lobe have not changed- however , in retrospect the radiologist foun 4 more nodule on the left lobe- they are as follows
4mm anterior segment of left lower lobe
adjacent to pleura left upper lobe - 2.5mm
3rd one adjacent to the posterior pleura 3mm
2.6mm nodule anteriorly in left upper lobe
the orighinal right lobe nodules are stable and remain aat 6mm and 4mm
What do you think about them finding 4 more- does this mean anything
Any feedback is greatly appreciated
Thanks again
Patty

Hi,

It is good that the previous nodules appear not to be increasing in size.

If there are new nodules, then I would think that you may have something indolent, like a chronic infection, or an exposure to an airborne irritant (could it be occupational in origin?) . Your body seems to be fighting it off with the formation of nodules. The nodules seem to small and few to be producing any symptoms, is there any known exposure that may explain the condition?

Thank you for your response- I forget to mention that they believe the nodules are not new but found in "retrospect" after they compared the 2 ct scans- would that affect your previous posting- thank you again- it means so much to have someone with you expertise to ask

Hi,

Yes, that changes things. If the nodules had been found retrospectively, then this would strengthen the stability of the lung findings. It would also make finding the cause of all this harder, as whatever was causing it is in the past (and is likely no longer present with your current  health and personal circumstances). If it was infectious to begin with, then there is a good chance that the nodules represent scars. At any rate, if things are stable and you feel fine, there shouldn’t be any reason to worry too much.

Thank you so much - I think it sounds like good news and perhaps lung cancer is not the issue- Just some old scarring-
I will keep in touch
