lupus and hcg drops dieting

I was diagnosed with lupus in 12/08.  I take plaquenil, vitamin d and recently started taking cymbalta for depression and xanax for anxiety.  I also take thyroid medication.  I've gained 20 lbs in the last 6 months and cant lose the weight.  I plan on starting the hcg drops diet- but i'm worried it's too much medication.  has anyone out there tried this diet?  I'll ask my doctor about it before I start, but since this diet is not popular, i'm wondering if anyone out there has tried and if it affected your lupus.  I'm 48 years old, happily married and a working mom.  I dont get tired often, but these 20 extra pounds are making me sluggish.

I would definately speak to your doctor! I just read a bit about the diet and it does not sound healthy to me. please make sure you talk to your doctor before trying it

I have tired the drops with success.  I lost ten pounds in five days.  Keep in mind I only had 20 to lose.  I gained weight with prednisone.  I just wasn't ready to give up my hot tamales, so I stopped.  The diet requires no sugar.  I just didn't want to make that sacrifice (NO SUGAR).  I spoke to my rheumatologist about hcg and his concern was the lack of calories the diet requires.  The lack of calories alone could make some people flare.  I myself had no problems or side effects.  Talk it over with your physician and you guys can make the best decision for you.  Good luck.
