Raised white elongated bump on shaft of penis

I have had a large white area of  raised skin on my penis shaft for 3 years. I have been to embarrassed to have it looked at by my physician. It is slightly raised and white in the center and pink around the outside. It has never wept or had and fluid come out of it. I have tried using a topical steroid cream and it has not affected it. I have taken a home std test and have come back negative. I have no idea what is causing this, but any info would be appreciated.

You say it's elongated - how long is it?

It could be a sebaceous cyst or a Fordyce spot (which is just an oil gland).

It's not HPV/a genital wart. That wouldn't last 3 years with no change. It's not molluscum - same thing, it wouldn't last that long with no change.

A syphilis sore is red, round and painless and only lasts a few weeks, usually.

You really should see a doctor. Your doctor views your penis as any other body part and has seen everything. I know it's embarrassing for you, but your genital health is just as important as any other part of your body.

Go get it checked out, and put your mind at ease.

I wish there was a way to submit a picture. It's about a centimeter long. What type of doctor would be most appropriate for this type of thing. A dermatologist?
A dermatologist would be able to tell you immediately what it is, compared to a general practitioner who might or might not. In your shoes I would go right to a dermatologist, or ask the g.p. for a referral to a dermatologist.

Once in a similar situation, I just said to the nurse practitioner who was helping me, "I apologize in advance for making you look at that part of my body, but I have a funny bump" [and then said where it was]. Maybe if you say something similar right up front,  you ultimately won't be as embarrassed as you think.

This could also be lichen sclerosus or very many other things. Does it itch, hurt, bleed? Urologist would be my first choice since hes/ her job is to look at many penises dayly and knows the best all the diseases of a penis. If needed, they will refer you to other specialists. Good luck and get well soon!

No itch or pain, it's almost scar like in appearance and looks similar to a keloid. Every few days the top layer of skin dies and gets peely and comes off in the shower. The size has gotten smaller super super gradually so I keep telling myself it'll heal since it does appear a bit improved since it first developed. But it is still very noticeable
So some tough love - it's been 3 years. If it's "super super gradually" getting smaller, at this rate, you'll have it for 6 years, and it might be 3/4 of the size it is now.

How old are you? Are you sexually active? Have you ever had your genitals examined?

If you are sexually active, and you've never had anything examined, it's time, my friend. I know it can be embarrassing, but remember that your penis is just like your elbow or your knee. If you had something wrong with either of those, you'd see a doctor, right?

You'll also feel so much better after you go and just get some answers.
