Chances of conceiving

My wife and I have been trying to have children for a year and a half.  Just recently, I had a sperm analysis.  The results, according to the report by the doctor, are that I'm "highly unlikely to conceive a child due to testicular atrophy." My wife is fertile because she had a child in a previous marriage.  My results are as followed:
Component                                            Value             Range
LIQUIFICATION TIME                              *                  >20 MINUTES
VISCOSITY-SEMEN                                *                  >NORMAL
PH-SEMEN                                             7.0(*)            7.2-8.0
VOLUME-SEMEN                                    2.0               >>2.0 (CC)
SPERM CONCENTRATION                CANCELLED
TOTAL SPERM COUNT                     CANCELLED
MOTILITY-SPERM                             INVALID            >>50 (%)
TOTAL MOTILE SPERM COUNT        CANCELLED
MEAN PROGRESSION (0-4)               INVALID
LEUKOCYTES-SPERM                       FEW                 >NONE
SPERM COUNTED (PER 4 SQ)           Comment: NO SPERM SEEN ON MOTILITY

Please let us know what this means or what my next step is to have children.  What are my chances? (Invitro?)

Thank you,
D

I went through a similar test many years ago and my results were not encouraging either. They were similar to yours although I did have a about a 25% motilitity but many of these were defective. My wife had issues as well. The doctor basically told us that we had zero chance of having a child without doing invitro.

Prior to that my wife was placed on a mild fertility drug and she did become pregnant but she miscarried early in her pregnancy. We met with the doctors a few years later after efforts to concieve failed. We were waiting on getting into an invitro clinic so in the meantime I asked the doctor to put my wife back on the fertility drug that she got pregnant on before. He did and she got pregnant and had a very smooth pregnancy. Our miracle child is now 23.

We tried again for another child and went through the invitro process but failed to achieve a successful pregnancy. This was back in 1990 I am sure this process has been improved since then.

On the surface your chances are not good but you can beat the odds as my wife and I did. It sounds like she has no fertility issues which is a big help. My wife and I both had issues it was a delicate balance. Try not to get too consumed with it although that is very tough not to. It was the most stressful part of my wife's and my 30 years of marriage.

Pray for a miracle as they do happen. Invitro is a good optiona s long as you ahve some healthy sperm to work with. I am not clear on that. Best of luck to you and your wife. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be glad to answer them as I have been througha  very similar experience with great results.
