Do I have Lipoma or is it something else?

Hi, about 2 years ago I noticed a lump on my back so I went to the doctor and he said it was lipoma. At this point, the lump was a bit hard when I touched it. Several months later or about a year later, it became soft all of a sudden like it was about to burst and after touching it a bit more, all of this green puss starting coming out. After that all came out, there was white stuff (i think it was fat) which came out but it had to be forced out (I had someone do it for me lol). I had to put a patch on my back because liquid was still coming out etc.. Anyway that cleared up a couple of days later and everything was fine. Six months later, I developed the same thing somewhere else on my back near the same area. I have had it for about a year or longer now and today, it has got soft again like its about to burst, like it did last time.

I just want to know if this is lipoma or if its something else that is similar? I would like to know exactly what it is if possible... Do you know if they will ever stop appearing?

Thanks for your help.

A friend and I are covered with Lipoma's, we both have them in the chest, arms, back, stomach, groin, legs and neck, I would estimate that I have about 200 of these lumps.

Got my first one at 25 years of age, around my waist, I worried because I thought I had Cancer, I was told it was a Lipoma, now 64 years of age and I am covered with them.

A lipoma is a fatty tumour that grows just below the skin, it wiggles from side to side just like an eye inside a socket, all of mine are hard and when removed look like a flattened pea, they can grow to a massive size, thankfully to date mine have grown no bigger than about 3/4 inch.

When removed they can grow back, to date I had only 3 removed, a little futile when you have hundreds of them, when you have a lot of them like my friend and myself it is called Multiple Lipomatosis.

I have never tried squeezing them and if they are Lipomas that you have I would suggest that you dont, when these things grow near a bone like a rib they can be very painfull, they also cause pain when they first show up, they can be near a nerve and when one starts aching others start hurting at other parts of the body, sometimes I have felt about 100 years old thankfully this only happens about once a year.

I dont know what starts them hurting, maybe its something in the diet or maybe by swisting some part of the body that pinches the lump.

Your doctor has said it was a lipoma and I would say he is most likely right, what I would do is get another opinion, if the lumps are lipomas dont worry to much, there can be complications but they are rare and I feel they would have to grow to a very large size.

Dont do to much searching on the net re Lipomas, there are many types of lipoma and some of them can be awfull, I frightened the hell out of myself with what I read, now I look at things a little more rational, some forums re Lipomas talk about all kinds of things related, dont go there its no help whatsoever.
