Erections that are consistently pressed down by your underwear/clothes

If your erections are consistently pressed down by your underwear, is it okay for your health?

Why did men, since the ancient times, wear underwear that while not tight fitting necessarily, would press down erections constantly for the majority of their clothed lives?

Why do men have to go through this discomfort?

And my question is whether this is just a discomforting thing or whether penises break and/or pressed down erections is just not a good thing if done consistently for a long period of time?

Thanks.

Best way to counter this is to sit on a chair, as the penis is level with your legs where your pants will be it will not push against the pants at all and will be fully comfortable. Or if you are just at home feel free to pull them down a bit if it starts to hurt (ofcourse if there are no young kids around or if everybody is ok with it. that is if there is anybody around)
