Folliculitis, Herpes or something else?

by WertherQuestion, Dec 02, 2008 08:27PM
Thank you in advance; to whom it may concern:

It began in late September after a night of no sleep and rough sex.  Several days prior to that I had had a fever and lay sweating in bed.  A few nights before that I had had sex.  That is two partners in two weeks or so before any signs of an STD, except for a fever.  The timing of my description is off, because this was a while ago.  Then on both thighs, the inner thighs, there developed simultaneously after the night of rough sex, maybe 5 days after, red pimple like things that had a white center - from my own investigation it looked alot more like those pictures of folliculitis then anything else.  My partner and I had rubbed against each alot with our jeans on and there was alot of friction during sex as well.  I also used a condum brand I had not used before with weird lubrication and texture.  It was the first time I had had sex in several months.  Anyways, each of these 'pimples' had a hair jutting from it.

At the time I also had what looked like a Molluscum Contagium on my inner pelvis on the right side.  This 'lesion' looks like a wart and it sort of dimples towards the center, if only very slightly; it has remained the same size, but several tinier molluscum resembling things have cropped up on the shaft of my penis; they have slowly, slowly and in the smallest dimensions, grown.  They seem to be filled with something whiteishpinkish and seems like a fluid.  The first one I had noticed is now about the size of a pen's tip, where before it had been maybe half that size.  Towards the shaft and one or two on the foreskin, several others, very small have developed; being .5-1.5 mm in diameter.  Several others have cropped up in various places around the shaft of my penis. The skin color around these is normal.  They are not painful to touch nor do they tingle, past or present.  They have not secreted anything, etc.  Benign as far as I can tell.

I never experienced any pain with those pimples on my thighs.  They smelled a little bit, like pus, probably.  They did not tingle until I had read articles online about different STDs and then they were slightly sensitive to the touch but not immediately after and at that point they had not reached the apex of their size. They have all but disappeared.  There are two on each thigh yet.  I have read on this forum that herpes does not affect both thighs at the same time; from pictures they look alot more like folliculitis.  So I hope.

Then 6 days ago the skin under the head of my penis became inflamed but in a symmetrical fashion on the left and right of the area under the head.  I am circumcised.   It did not scab over, but it was peeling a little bit, however it wasn't painful or very sensitive.  If urine came in contact with this inflamed area it did tingle, maybe even burn slightly, but not very much.  It is shiny and red.  I kept it clean, took warm showers and it subsided for a day.  Then I received a handjob against my better judgement and the next day on my penis head there developed a small red rash, that is rougher and resembles the texture of the skin of an elbow to the touch.  Underneath the rash on the nape, that is the curveing up part of my head there is a similiar rash of the same color.  These are the most prominent in color and in roughness.  I had noticed a few days before the begginings of two very small dots, only slightly off-base in terms of my natural skin color down there on my head, but not exactly where the rash is. Anyways, within the rash the indentation of a small nail seems to be at the center, but this indentation is not deep and in depth resembles most of the other lines that gives the penis head its texture.  It is just noticeable.  I kept it all clean and it subsided every so slightly and that brings us up to today.  I put my Aveeno facial mostuirizer, hypoallergenic stuff, that reduces redness on it.  I have been cleaning it with regular handsoap and warm water.  When I shower, the hot water does not cause pain or anything and seems to diminish the prominence of it all.

I also noticed today a small 'hole', that I am unsure of its origins.  The area of the hole radiates, depending on my focus and activity, a small tingling.  It hasn't really stopped; and its like a toothache in that it comes and goes.  It is not painful to the touch, and I can stretch the foreskin in all directions with no pain.  It is within the area under the head I previously described but on the right.  It is maybe a mm deep and is triangular.  It may have been there before.  These peeling abrasions, and they are more chafing gone wrong, or whatever they are, have spread from the symmetrical area they were in before to the underside of the head, maybe just a few milimeters down, but only on the left of the head, that is the side where the rash is.  I should mention that a small area on my shaft, chaffed, and resembled as in the past chafing from masterbation (masturbation).  It peeled quickly and was not even noticeable minutes later.
(.  ) The dot represents the rash and in terms of size and surface area it is about 1/25 of my penis head as viewed from above.  There are in total 11-15 Molluscum things, because some of these I can't tell apart from my skin, from an original number of 3 or so noticeable ones on my shaft.  My thighs are completly devoid but for the two red folliculitis things on my right and left thigh; they seem to be remenants of the original 'breakout'.

Thank you for reading this.  I tried to write it concisely and accurately.

See a good dermatologist, one who deals with skin conditions that may deal with sexual activity.  You need to request that a skin biopsy be done for an accurate diagnosis.  Don't let them talk you out of a biopsy with, " I think it appears to be this and here try this cream".  From your excellent description of which I could not have done better, as well as your blunt honesty,  I see this is scaring you.  Right now it behooves you to delay sexual activity with other people until you know what you are dealing with.  You want to be a responsible caring person.  If you get the run around from your dermatologist get someone else or go to a university hospital and see what they have to offer.  Might be worthwhile to take some sharp pictures of those rashes with good light and  present them to the MD so that they can see the different stages of this skin problem to help in diagnosing.    Good luck: Majsaint
