Itchy Perineum!

Hello.  i am 21 and in good health, but for about three years now my perineum and the areas around it (scrotum and anus mainly) have been extremely itchy.
It started out as an occasional itch, especially when i would sweat, but would go away after a day or so. then about a year ago the itch started getting worse, and since then it has been at a constant itch that i am constantly scratching.
i see no signs of bumps or pimples, only a rash after i scratch (it looks pale when i havent scratched it).  the skin seems to itch "deep down", like its under the skin. sometimes it feels like "pins" are poking the area, thus getting irritated, and in turn i scratch.  its at its worst when ive been sweating alot (hot days, working hard) or if ive been sitting down for a long time.  also, after i shower, the skin dries up, and tends to crack and chap, which in turn causes it to itch even more.  it will act up after bowel movements too, after i wipe.
i really try not to scratch, but when i do, its almost hard to stop.  after a scratching "episode", the skin will be moist, almost slimy to the touch.  then it will dry up, and a scab will form. but after an hour or so will crack and pinch, and its right back to inching and normally ending with scratching.  sometimes though itll be raw and sore, and have a constant, itchy feeling to it.  it might stay like that for a whole day.
i have used many different bar and liquid soaps, and have gone from luffas to washclothes to many other types of cleansing the area, thinking it was a hygeine problem.  nothing as changed the outcome of the itch.  i have also used an assortment of creames, from Preperation H to Cortaid, which i am using now.  but that only midly suppresses the itch.  it seems like the skin "soaks up" whatever cream i apply, and it will swell up, then proceed to itch very badly.
i have also changed clothing.  i now wear lose 100% cotton boxers and loose jeans.  but that hasnt cleared the problem up too much.  if anything, the area dries out more!  (although its more "comfortable" then it being moist). when this itch first started i was wearing boxer briefs.
i have not, unfortunetly, seen a docter about the problem.  although apart from being very embarrassing, with me being in the military and so busy it seems, i havent had the time to make appointmets.

does anyone know what this could?  any suggestions/cures known?

Thank you for all your help!

The best advice I can give is go see a doctor as they're the best people to decide what it is.  I tried an anti-fungal cream bought off the shelf because looking at the internet it seamed like Tinea Cruris (Jock Itch) but it didn't clear it up as my problem was both bacterial and fungal which is apparently the most common type of infection in the skin round that area.

The big problem is a lot of things present those symptoms so try not to be embarrassed  and just get it over and done with by seeing someone medically qualified who'll be in a better position to tell you whats what.  Trust me, you don't want to waste time and put up with it any longer than you have to.

I dont know if you have what I used to have which was Jockrash, I used to get a terrible itch between the legs, when I scratched it it used to smell awful, it is similar to Tinea that you can get between your toes, I thing a fungal thing.

I got it because my job was a courier and used to ride a motorbike for 3-4 hours a day, it used to spead into my groin area, total coverage was between my anus and groin, it was caused from sweating.

Found an easy way to stop it I shaved the hair off in the infected area, never came back, that was 18 years ago, still to this day I shave the area around my genitals back to my anus.

Dont know if that will be any help to you but it sure solved my problem.

hi guys
Ive got someting similar myself and havent seen a doctor, but did some reading and apparently eucalytpus oil is a good antifungal so ive been using that for the last couple of days with a good result. I drip probably a teaspoon of oil around my scrotum and rub it in and, and after hurting like a you-know-what for about 5 minutes the itch is gone for about 12hrs. Im currently using it when i get up in he morning and go to bed at night. Maybe you could give that a try till you see a doctor.

Hi.
I am experiencing the same problem. I'm only 16 and i used to scratch it alot. Ever since i scratched it alot, the the skin felt very smooth when errect, but it is sometimes sticky when it isnt errect. The skin on my penis is much darker than other areas on my body, it also looks rougher too.
I saw a doctor about this, and he prescribed me some cream to relieve the itch. I'm very worreid about this problem. Is it possible that i might have scratched it to a point where the skin wont recover to its original state?
Thanks

ok not a doctor here but could be a number of things...

i would suggest you go see a doctor about it, i could name a few things that i think it may be but i would probably be wrong.

hemaroides is something that it may be, i have not looked up the symptoms of it,
i know napoleon use to itch due to syphless so it may be that but doubt it,
could be crabs but doubt that too.
it could just be a skin infection/fungal infection that needs some antibiotics to cure it..
could also be herpies but not looked that up,

they would be my guesses though so do not take them as though you got something, my propper guess would be a fungal infection though

i would suggest you see a doctor about it, they will pretty much know what it is, give you a cream or tablet to clear it up...and would think within a couple of weeks you would be cured.

i only recomend this incase it is contageous and you spread it to your partner or someone else

i would also recomend you do not self diagnose this as the creams for one thing and you use it for another may upset it more...

your chemest may know the answer too, it may be embarressing but hey thats what they are there for, and believe me you will not be the first case with this nor the last so don't feel bad about what ever it is
