PSA test results

PSA test results

I'm 62 years old, soon to be 63 in three months. I had my annual physical and my PSA was 5. It has always been 1 in the past tests over 5 years or so. I asked for a retest because I gave my fasting blood sample only 2 hours after I had intercourse. The retest came at 4.1. My doctor recommends I should see a urologist since there is a sudden jump in PSA level from last year. I went online and found that PSA normal levels for men in 60-70 year group is 0 to 4.5 range, although not all doctors agree. My doctor says normal range is 0 to 4.0 and that I should be concerned even though the rectal exam revealed no increase in the size of prostate. Should I be concerned? I want to see a urologist but I don't want to do anything further such as biopsies. Is this the right way to go with this problem? I don't want to deal with this whole thing for another 2 years.

I don't know what your health circumstances are, but if you are healthy and your doctor thinks so to, and there is no other reason for you to have a biopsy other than the psa result you could wait a while or see if you have an infection. My husband is 51 and back in January had a PSA reading of 7.29. His others have always been below 1
His doctor put him on antibiotics for a month, and said if it didn't go down he should see a urologist. We worried like crazy but prayed for the best result. Just a few days ago after completing the antibiotics he had another test and it went down to 0.5
You could talk to your doctor about this approach maybe.
Take care

Best not to make something out of nothing, if your doctor says you are OK leave it at that, I am 65 this year my PSA was 4.1,  after a rectal examination a Urologist told me last year I had only a 5% chance of ever getting Prostate Cancer and my Prostate was in good health.
