Thank you gentlemen for your helpful insights as I am starting to experience the discomfort you already have. May I ask the two gentlemen who experienced an entrapped pudental nerve and interstitial cystitis: what were the treatments for both of these conditions and did they work? If so, how long did they take to work. Thank you for your information.
DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT LAB TESTS ARE FINAL, OR THAT ITS IN YOUR HEAD. I work in a medical lab..trust me.
I Also went through a similar situation where I felt like I was having a bladder infection (for 6 months straigt!) and every test came back negative. My first two drs made me feel like it was all in my head. But final I found someone who had the same conditions and I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. THERE ARE DISEASES THAT ARE NOT DETECTED BY LAB TESTS AND THAT SOME DOCTORS DONT EVEN BELIEVE IN. Find the right DR! Good luck!
That is quite the work through of professionals you have inaugurate upon. But hats off to you. You did a job well done with the effort you put forth to get the answers you needed to hear - a reliable, satisfied, diagnosis. It's absolutely barbaric that human beings have to suffer for a long period of time, with unnecessary misdiagnosis, when the profressional can have the decency to say that he is unsure of the predicament.
The nausea and lightheadedness can be brought upon the medication, but as I stumbled accross the fact sheet of possible symptoms for the Cipro, I found none of the above symptoms. Both were not my original symptoms, but developed within a week period, right after I started taking the medication, so with that theory, it is quite possible that may be the cause. My original symptoms were scrotal pain, chills, back pain, and a slight burning in the start of urination and afterwards. My back pain is located at the tip of my spine, just above the posterior of my waist. It is sensitive to touch.
As for the pain medications, I have tried Advil, Tylenol 1, and a prescription of one specific pain killer, but all have been unsuccessful. I don't consume them on a regular basis with the lack of success I had with the three.
Unless something is clear cut, it is not unusual to have to see a myriad of professionals before someone stumbles on the right diagnosis. I went through 3 GPs, a urologist, proctologist, pain clinic specialist and the team of 3 docs in Houston. I actually feel lucky in that it took me months (6), instead of years to understand the source of my pain. People I talked to that have the same thing I have, have gone through many more docs and years of frustration, anxiety, intense pain and suffering. One acquaintence was misdiagnosed for 30 years!!
I was thinking that your nausea and lightheadedness could be from the meds you are taking? Did this just start or has this been all along? Are you on pain meds as well as antibiotics? Is your lower back pain at the lumbar spine or is it actually touch sensitive at the tip of your spine (kind of where your butt crack ends (sorry, but sometimes we must be very descriptive)).
I hope your course of meds does it for you and you are out of pain soon.
Nice to hear SEAGLASS you finally found the proper diagnosis of your problem after all those months of agony. Now hopefully, you're on the proper treatment and all is well for you.
My doctor thinks it's prostatitis because everything is coming back negative. Even though I question if I really have prostatitis to this day. Nothing proves that diagnosis. I never had a prostate fluid culture to be sent out for analysis, and my doctor doesn't feel I need to. The Lab doesn't culture the fluid long enough anyways. It's usually just a few days, but I heard it may take more than a week for something to grow. On the other hand, he claims I am on the right medication for it, and I just have to "wait it out". The scrotal pain at times is unbearable, and I am in distress with the back pain. I also have intense nausea and lightheaded for most of the day. I've been to a Urologist, and about three doctors, who are all unsure of my case. I am frustrated to say the least. But as for now, it is "prostatitis".
Maybe you do..I don't know. What makes your doctor think that?
My symptoms were more than just scrotal pain, but I was diagnosed with chronic prostatitis by the urologist I was going to. Even though all of my tests came back negative. I was on courses of antibiotics for 4-5 months. Through my urologist, I had urine tests, bloodwork, prostate fluid cultures, prostate ultrasound, prostate biopsy (In my opinion, I would advise NOT to have this done unless there is a real reason...like a high PSA count. Even my proctologist said he though that procedure is archaic.), and a cystoscopy. All came back negative, but he diagnosed chronic prostatitis and I was told to live with it. Unacceptable! I couldn't even sit down without the pain in my rectum, scrotum, perineum and genitals esculating tremendously. I knew that men with prostatitis could at least sit down. I felt there had to be something else going on, and I pursued an answer with other doctors.
My proctologist did a sigmoidoscopy and couldn't find the reason for my pain. At least he admitted he did not know, and said he had about 3 of these 'mystery' cases a year. I had a lower pelvic MRI and a lumbar spine MRI. I also had a myelogram to see if the pain generator was coming from my spine nerves/roots. Those tests showed I had some degeneration of the spine, but nothing that would cause my kind of pain.
Through my sister's research based on my symptoms, we found what we thought was my problem. We then went to a specialized team of doctors in Houston who correctly diagnosed me. If I had listened to all the original doctors, and was just 'living with it', I would be worse, not knowing I had an entrapped pudendal nerve. I am NOT saying that is what you have (I would not wish this on anyone)...this is just my story. I guess I am just trying to tell you to have heart...because if after your courses of anti-biotics, your symptoms do not improve, you CAN pursue other causes than what one doctor says, until you feel satisfied with answers.
Sorry this post was so long.
Thanks SEAGLASS, I appreciate that. Unfortunately, I still have the scrotal pain. But the doctor now seems to conclude that I have some form of prostatitis.
I certainly do ChicShane, but please understand, someone can have more than one thing going on at a time.
Tests showed e-coli, Letiviticus was treated and his re-tests showed he was cured of that. But something else can be causing the scrotal pain. End of e-coli treatment doesn't have to mean end of story.
Letiviticus,
I hope by now your scrotum pain has subsided and all is well.
Seaglass doesn't quite understand the power of hysteria... your tests have confirmed negative lab results, if you have to listen to him or a blood test, the blood test usually doesn't lie.
It is not in your head. Don't ever accept that explanation when you know what pain you are feeling. That is a cop-out diagnosis when people don't know why you are in pain.
I went to many different doctors who misdiagnosed me. They base their diagnosis on the set of symptoms you have that sounds closest to their specialty and on only what they know. I turned out to have a rare pudendal nerve condition.
Keep searching...I would rather have a doctor tell me they don't know what I have, rather than those cop-out diagnoses based on only the conditions they do know about.
Sounds like it's in your head, and perhaps hysteria and paranoia? All of your tests confirm that you are ok, why don't you wait another 10 days, if the symptoms don't go away, get the opinion of another urologist. Cheers.
