Sudden Scrotal Mass?

Sometime between 1am-2am this morning, the right side of my scrotum sudden seems to have swollen and is hard to the touch. It feels like there is cardboard in the skin or something, and is about the size of my palm. It doesnt feel like this is connected to my testicles, as I can feel them moving freely within, but this hard shell like scrotum is slightly painful if you press at it. Similar to the feeling you get when pressing on a pimple. I'm not sure if this is something a doctor should look at or if I should wait a few days and see if it goes away?
