This thread is 10 years old. I'm sure it's resolved somehow by now.

Who cares if he's gay? I'm not saying he is or isn't but why do you care? Is he hurting anyone? Is he a nice guy? Then let him be himself and get on with your life. As long as he does not hurt himself then let him be.

P.S.  It's obvious, but perhaps I should have emphasized it by stating it:  If he "isn't interested in men," then by definition he cannot be gay.  But if he should happen to have an interest in both men and women, then he would be classified as "bi" (bisexual), not gay per se.  In any case, I feel that we place far too much weight on labeling people:  We're all human beings...shouldn't that be enough?  Remember what the Kinsey Scale (you can look it up) tells us.  It posits that the range of human sexuality is not discretely divisible:  a person can fall anywhere along a smooth, unbroken continuum from one extreme (heterosexual/homosexual) to the other.

Why so interested in what he may be?  If he does what you describe only in private (how do you know the intimate details?), it sounds as if he is neither gay nor a genuine transvestite---merely a man with a sexual fetish.  There are documented cases of straight, even married, men who get a sexual thrill from dressing in items of women's clothing.  (No, I don't understand it, but psychiatric journals confirm it.)  It may be considered bizarre, but it's completely harmless in and of itself.  There is no problem unless he himself considers it so---or unless he improprietously displays it before other, unwilling people.  If he wants to see a therapist (not a doctor), fine;  but if not, leave him alone.  (You seem concerned, but not shocked or offended, even though you have somehow learned about it.)  Why and how, unless "we [take] him to a doctor," would anyone else, other than you as a friend of his father, learn about it?  ~~~  No, a doctor could not tell about the "wooden rod" UNLESS it should, not unlikely. cause internal damage with the potential to be deadly.  If he wants to continue anal stimulation, then he should certainly switch to a much safer (commercially available) dildo or butt plug   ~~~ And finally, why in the world should he stop masturbation?!?  It's a normal, safe, pleasurable, soothing activity, relieving sexual, bodily, and mental tensions.  And an extra benefit:  nowadays it is even considered by many medical people to possibly reduce the chance of acquiring prostate cancer.
