colonoscopy

Hi

My friend wants to ask: I am having a colonoscopy next week to rule out bowel cancer, chrons, UC etc so have got to do bowel prep the day before.
Obviously i know that by its very nature the bowel prep won't be nice but what i want to know is that once it gets going, roughly how long will i be stuck on the loo for? Will it be just a few hrs or will it be all night? Its a PM appt so start at 5pm the night before (with senna before it at 3pm) Also, the next day i have to have the last half sachet of citramag at 9am, but have to leave for the hospital by 2pm at the latest. Is this enough time for it to have finished working?
Would really appreciate it if you have experience of this if you could advise me.
Thank you very much!!!! x

The preparation is the worst part of a colonoscopy, but it is just a total clean-out involving going to the toilet when needed each time as you drink the prescribed solution.  You should not "be stuck on the loo", but you should not go too far away either.  From my experience, you will not remember a thing about the actual colonoscopy.  My doctor joked afterwards, "Are you ready to do it?", but quickly added that it was all over, and I had no rememberance of the procedure.

You generally start it the day before the procedure, and it will be a long evening. You may have to go an couple times, but not like you will during the day.
