Semen - fishy odor ??? (Poll)

I've got some serious pelvic pain problems and believe they're bacterial.
If I masturbate in the evening, when I wake up in the morning, my penis smells fishy where the semen has dripped down.  One doctor told me that one of the components of semen is responsible for this but I never noticed this before my problems developed and when on certain antibiotics that have helped me to some extent, the fishy odor has disappeared.  This leads me to believe either there's bacteria somewhere in my system that's causing my problems or potentially what I'm smelling is from skin bacteria having a party with my stale semen.  My reasoning is that the semen containing the antibiotic would then kill the skin bacteria.   I'm not 100% sure, but based on my history, I suspect there's bacteria in my semen.

Has anyone here noticed this fishy odor?  If so, have you had pelvic pain or similar problems?  I can't believe this doctor has me questioning whether or not this is normal... I've had my penis for as long as I can remember and I haven't noticed this smell until my problems started.

Anyone?

Thanks.

hi guys i had sex with a gal, i realised a fishy smell comin from her bed b4r i actualy ad a intercourse with her in her place, allthough i had protected sex and washed my self after .but later i started getin the same smell in my bed at my place, i have undergone all std tests and all have come negative. i dont have any pain in my pelvic area or neither i get any smell from my semen.

Its really strange as to how i get this smell on my bed even if am really hygenic.?as ' pelvicpain ' mentioned he had taken antibio and it had stoped for a while, i also had a similar experiance but unfortunatly it was back again.

my doc wasnt able to figure out the cause,  he thinks its BV and states their is no symptoms in men except the smell. but am not sure he is right. does any one av a solution for this.?& BV sexually transmitted.? what could be the root cause for this odor.?

Same fishy smell after a little while of not showering after ejaculating. No pelvic pain though. I haven't gone to doctor (no health insurance), but it sounds like if I do they won't be able help. If anyone figures out a solution, or a cause, please post.

I understand you perfectly. I have the same problem but without the pelvic pain. It smells fishy after hours from the ejaculation but not when ejaculating. It is easy to say just clean and you won't have it. Yes of course that is what I do. But there are rare occasions that I don't take a shower and the odor appears. I have never had this before. Did you find a reasonable explanation to this yet? I've seen a doctor and he was not able to point this on to anything.

I seem to be having that same smell issue and it started a year or 2 ago. It's only hours after ejaculating and even if I take a shower and scrub, it still happens. I have also had some urination issues (I have to push under my scrotum after urinating to get the last drips out and I occasionally have post ejaculatory pain. No idea what it is. But I agree that the important info here is that the smell used to not exist and now it just does. I almost suspect that it has more to do with skin friction than it does with semen.

yeah, I am experiencing the exact same here, my pain is appearing just beneath the skin (under the skin that is known as the perineum), it feels like a pressure, are you also experiencing slight difficulty urinating, once it starts, it is ok, but I need to force more than usual in order to begin urinating.  I have the exact same fishy smelling issues that you are experiencing, only after awhile, not right when it is fresh... I really wonder what it could be, I'm going to consult my family doc, see if he can set me up with a urologist...

I have the same fishy smell of the semen. No pelvic pain. Haven't taken any kind of medicine for anything in quite some time. Just started recently and I can't think of anything that could be the cause. Let me know if you find out what causes it.

yeah its bacterial reacting on the skin causing fungi to grow as you are not cleaning after it mutiplys and gives off the smell . simple soloution is to clean it after !  there is not really anything you can use for bacterial it gos away on its own but  if its severe we give antibiotics x x

SeriousSam,
True, if I clean up afterwards I won't notice the problem.  But the point is that in the past I never noticed that odor and when on antibiotics there was definitely no odor.  So I'm concerned it's bacterial.

Just clean up afterwards and I am betting you'll notice you don't have the smell problem

It smells "normal" when it comes out (I guess you might say soapy) but after it sits a while that's when things don't smell right... and it didn't used to be that way.

Any more opinions?  (Please specify whether or not you've had chronic pelvic pain issues as well)

I can't say that I've ever noticed a particularly fishy smell in my semen.  Thus I am no great help to you - sorry!

Semen, like all genital secretions, can get to be quite pungent after awhile, but I've never noticed a fishy smell in my semen.  I'd say it smells more like soap.

But your reasoning sounds good to me.  You should get a second opinion.
