testosterone threapy/prozac

testosterone threapy/prozac

i've been on prozac a number of years for depression.i have had no libido until i got a blood test
and my testosterone reading was very low .my urologist started testosterone cypionate therapy
i have had six injections.after the third injection a blood test showed an increase in T. after a few
more shots blood test showed very low again. some week's i have plenty of libido other weeks
nothing at all. it's like a roller coaster ride.my question is, can prozac inhibit the T. shots from
working? is the up and down libido normal? when i told this to my Dr.all he said was "how do
you feel?" i said ok. i would appreciate your opion. Don.

Donald;

Reduced libido is a common side effect of not only Prozac but all SSRI-class drugs.  From the Wikipedia entry for Prozac:

"Other side effects may occur, including sexual dysfunction. Possible sexual side effects can include anorgasmia, reduced libido and impotence.[23]"

Regarding the prozac inhibiting the T shots from working, I'd have to say that they are certainly not helping.  I don't know if it's ever been shown that they counter testosterone production, but logic tells me that is probably the case.

What dosage of Prozac are you taking for your depression?  Maybe you can wean yourself off to a lighter dose.
