I am 28 years old with 2 kids and I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Daily Headaches. My headache starts at the base of my skull and sometimes radiates from there, but is mostly on the left side of my head. It is there all day long everyday for 2 or 3 months now. OTC meds may help, but as soon as they wear off the headache comes right back. My doctor told me to stop taking the OTCs and precribed me Fioricet and Phenergan. I have only taken the Fioricet twice because it makes my face and arms tingly and numb feeling and I see flashes of light when I take it. Why does this happen? I have had adverse reactions to caffeine (one of the ingredients) starting about two years ago, including numbness, tingling, and head and body pain even with a very small amount (such as a sip of coffee), so I cut it out of my diet completely. I told this to my doctor but he seemed to blow it off. The Phenergan is great for bedtime because it makes me sleepy enough to fall asleep even though my head hurts but it doesn't help during the day because if I take it I'll fall asleep at my desk. I also have shooting pains throughout my body (jaw, chest, arms, legs, and head) sometimes and I always wake up with a stiff neck or lower back. My mother has fibromyalgia, could I have the same thing, and if so, how do I go about finding out? The pains that I have sometimes trigger pain attacks and I end up in the ER. I also have throbbing in the back of my head during which I am able to hear my heartbeat or swooshing sound in my right ear. These symptoms are affecting my ability to consentrate at work, remember things, and spend quality time with my children. I have an appointment with a neurologist coming up on 12/11/09, what can I do to make sure he understands the severity of my condition and doesn't blow me off like the last doctor? I have really good insurance so I know that's not a factor in the doctor's attitude toward my treatment.
