Localized headache/long lasting

I'm a 32 year old male.  Started feeling a dull ache on the back left of my head 3 days ago.  It is roughly 2 inches behind ear and seems to cover an area about the size of a baseball.   Any pressure on the location cause the pain to be much more intense.  There is slight swelling present.  My neck is also stiff and sore on the left side of the head.   All the head pain is on the left side as well.   Pain is most pronounced on the bony lump between my ear and back of the skull.  A lymph node on my neck is also swollen.   Thanks for any help you can give me.

Well, obviously no md, but you are sounding migrainal to me. A g.p. cannot generally give you the meds you will need, I recommend finding a neuro who is a headache specialist. Migraines tend to last 6 -72 hrs for a single episode so you may really want to get to the er for immediate treatment. Headache specialists are on the cutting edge of treatments, I suffered with no relief for years before I went to mine. Good luck.

No fever at all.  Thought I had one earlier, cause I've been having chills, but temperature has been normal.

Yes, I have pretty severe tenderness especially when migraine seems to concentrate in one particular area. I am concerned about you wriiting about a stiff neck - this is a major red flag for certain infectious diseases. Do you have a fever, is it over 100? I get a mild fever during migraine aura stage, but anything high you really need to get help now! With the stiff neck, yes, muskoskelatal pain is very common w migraine, and my neck is frequently sore & have a stiff shoulder, all pain seems to come down in a line from where the center of the migraine pain is. Please take your temperature, a migraine is a bad diagnosis, but you are writing of symptoms that really worry me

Thanks Ellemma.  I appreciate the response.  It's not a ton of swelling, just a very slight bit.  I plan on going to see someone soon.  With a migraine, does the pain increase when you push on the area that hurts?  This almost feels like a deep bruise in a muscle, that kinda aches until you press on it, which makes it hurt.

You need to get to a dr ASAP! While you have the one sided, long lasting severe pain associated w migraine, as far as I am aware obvious swelling is on the painful part of your head is not, even though it may feel like a certain part of your head may explode I've never heard anyone complain of visible swelling. The E.R is where you need to go, they can treat you for migraine, make sure you don't have trauma to the area, and figure out why that lymph node is swollen. Infectious disease often begins w a severe headache ( i.e, meningitis.. Just an example! But you need to be treated right away, and getting into a neuro will happen much faster w a referral from the hospital if you do have a migraine. Best wishes
