Migraine

Hello,  I am new to this today.  I am asking about migraines for my grandson.  He is 26 and works as a Tech Support  for a company.  He has come home several times lately with a severe migraine headach.  He gets a drink of water and goes right to bed.  After thre to four hour's he is better.  What can cause a migraine that comes on so fast.  Thanks tappymusic

How are you? How is your grandson? A migraine is a common type of headache that presents as a throbbing pain on one side of the head. This may occur with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to light. This is believed to originate in the brain itself  and involves various nerve pathways and chemicals in the brain. Migraine attacks may be triggered by: allergic reaction, environmental changes,  physical or emotional stress, changes in sleep patterns, smoking, skipping meals, alcohol, tension headaches or certain  foods. There is no specific cure for migraine headaches. The goal is to prevent symptoms by avoiding or altering triggers. Over-the-counter pain medications are often used. If these do not help, you can always ask your doctor about prescription medications. This link may be helpful: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000709.htm

Hi,

How are you?
Migraine headaches are usually preceded by an aura where the subject experiences photosensitivity, nausea, ringing in the ears etc.
In some patients migraine may not be preceded by an aura. These headaches come suddenly. There is a definite trigger for migraine attack this could be a food product like caffeine, red wine, processed meat, cheese, chocolates, monosodium glutamate or environmental stress, bad posture, exposure to sun or direct heat.
Generally sitting a quiet room with cold  compresses on the head and neck helps.
