Right-Side Constant Headache for 1-year

I have had constant headaches for over a year.  They are always right-side and seem start at the base of the skull/neck region and build to behind my right eye and temple.  They start slowly, but build to incredible pain.  The headaches are constant, but can usually be controlled with extremely large doses of Ibuprofen (no other otc works). Sometimes, even this does not seem to help.  I often wake in the middle of the night to take more ibuprofen.  I have also had elevated blood pressure during this same time and am on medication for this.

I have seen two neurologists, an ENT, two Chiropractors and even acupuncturists.  I have had several MRI's with no significant findings and have been tested for allergies.  The only relief I have received is from a NUCCA chiropractor which focuses on the Atlas bone at the top of the neck.  The neurologists have recommended going on long term migraine medication such as TopaMax.  I am reluctant to do this and doubting the effectiveness.  Now Ibuprofen is starting to become less effective, causing me to add even higher doses.

Any recommendations?

To add to Dr. Noopur's comment, it may take some research to find a really good neurologist.  Word-of-mouth from patients and doctors is great.  I have had an awesome experience with my current neurologist, who is a migraine sufferer herself (and so is her practice partner).  They are worth the 1 1/2 hour drive (one way, no traffic).  Also, speaking with the office staff (and perhaps asking if the doctor has migraines...they would know) is also helpful.  Best of luck!

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
This type of headache can be due t neck problems also like cervical spondylitis or disc prolapse. Have you undergone a CT scan or MRI of neck?
If not please make sure that you do. Other possibilities can be sinusitis and even migraine. However it is important to rule out neck issues. I would suggest you to consult an experienced neurologist about this.
Take care!

My recommendation is to go see and eye doctor, I have had this bad migraine for going on four months staight. I have taken topamax and all other migraine meds and even pains meds it was so bad it has sent me to the ER at lease twice a month to get a shot and sent on my marry way knowing that it was no going to last long before the headaches returned. My doctor has given up on what to give me. The eye doctor found that the nerves connecting to my eyes were inflamed and I had to go in for an emergency LP to have fluid drained from my spine it helped relieve my headaches.

Only sounds like a rebound headache using OTC meds! Get a cat san just to be sure.
I had a headache for almost a year and ahalf...scared too death for a cat scan...ended up with a head injury and had a scan....it was only a sinus problem
