headache after drinking

im 58 years old and have been a moderate drinker all my adult life .

i'm in ok health (just had a check up pressure ,.sugar,.choloestrol  all fine
Wine red and white and vodka primarily

in the last year I found that wine would give me a headache so i stopped since i could still have a vodka and be ok

lately even one drink gives me a headache    any thoughts

Hi,
How are you? It is common to have a  immediate or the next-day headache after drinking.  The immediate headache is usually common for those who have history of primary headaches such as migraine or tension headaches. However, it is not usually the alcohol which is the source of the headache. Certain nonalcoholic ingredients are more likely to induce the headache attack than alcohol itself.

Hard liquor is more alcoholic than wine or beer. Some people can drink vodka or gin without developing a headache but cannot drink red wine, beer or the amber-colored hard liquors. Red wine contains tyramine which probably causes these headaches. On the other hand, hard liquor contains ingredients called cogeners, which may also cause headaches. Darker, amber-colored liquors contain more congeners than light-colored liquors, such as vodka and gin.
