migraines with high liver enzyme tests

Okay this is hard for me to eplain, but I have had many tests done-CT, MRI, MRA,blood tests and come to find out I was diagnosed with a ddep sinus infection (sinisitis i think) but I found out today that my liver enzymes are really high this is the 6th time I have been told this and my doctor refuses to tell me what this could mean I want to know if the migraines can be caused from this liver issue or any possible help that i can get would be great!

Hi,

An elevated liver enzyme may be due to functional changes in the body such as what happens during the first trimester of pregnancy.However, in most cases this signifies the presence of a liver injury.

Infectious diseases like hepatitis,certain medications,chronic alcohol use which causes fatty infiltration of the liver,autoimmune diseases, and other metabolic disorders may cause the liver enzynmes to shoot up.

Your increased liver enzymes do not directly cause your headaches. Are you taking any medcations for your sinus problem? This may cause your headaches and addressing this problem may help alleviate your condition.

An ENT specialist may give you a thorough assessment.Since most drugs are metabolized by the liver taking any medications at this point may require close supervision by a physician.

It does help I appreciate it but this poroblem with my liver enzymes specifically the alkaline phosphatase has been for months now but for the sinus issues this is the third antibiotic that I hav ehad to use in  4 weeks this one is called Doxyclycline, and I am not pregnant I rarely drink and when I saw rarely I mean twice a year.  I am schelduled to see a ENT but everytime my primary send me to a another specialist they always seem to aviod my questions and then if they decide to say anything it is ask you primary who then again says you need to see aspecialist, I am just tired of getting the runaround this is my body and if my health is at risk I would like to know.  Ihoep none of this came acrossed as rude that is not my intentions I am just frustrated.

Hi,

Were the scans done with your headaches as an indication? Or do you have other symptoms?

Is the alkaline phosphatase level the only liver enzyme elevated?
Have you any history of contraceptive use?
Any history of abdominal pain?

The elevated alkaline phosphatase levels may point to an underlying liver or bone disorder.Do you have the results of your scans with you?


With regards to your headaches.It is more likely the sinusitis causes the headaches. Do you have symptoms of purulent nasal discharge or tenderness just beneath the eye near the cheeks that has been going on for quite some time?Any fever in the last 4 weeks?

You have mentioned that you are on your third course of antibiotics. Were you able to complete your previous course of medications?Would you know the reason why your antibiotics have been shifted?
Chronic sinusitis (if this is your case)usually do not respond readily to antibiotics.This requires a consult with an ENT specialist since further evaluation is needed. A chronic or recurrent bout of sinusitis may be managed by doing a functional endoscopic sinus surgery which may drain the sinus and restore the airways.

I am not sure what you meant in the first question?

As far as Iknow that is the only liver enzyme that is elevated, I havent used birth control for atleast 4 years now my tubes are tied so really there is no reason, and i nregards to the abdominal pain, nothing out of the norm.  But I was telling my husband that I have been having alot of problems with my bones in the last 2 months, my shoulders hips and back has been hurting pretty bad and they have done mris and xrays but they show no broken bones or injured ligaments.  The only thing that I was confused about when I got the results of my x-rays was the doctor asked me if I broke my collar bone recently and I told him no, he said the bone is disformed in some way.

The resuslts of the alkaline phosphatase I hope thats what you re asking for well that was 186 and the doc said the norm for that should be no higher thatn 126?

The only nasal discharge is clear mucous, but I have had a problem for a long time with my nose, I tend top blow and blow and blow ut it is so hard to get anything out.

Regarding the antibiotics yes I did finish the first two rounds, but they didnt help so I am trying another round.

At this point , there seems to be no direct association between the increased liver enzyme and the headaches.

I would still suggest that a visit with your ENT specialist and a thorough assessment of the sinus infection ( as noted in your scans) be evaluated.This may shed some light on your condition.As mentioned, sinusitis may be recurrent and may be difficult to treat with antibiotics. An ENT doctor may be able to help you manage this.
