can i demand a ct scan?

i posted a question and got a reply, in the mean time i was admitted to hospital, i had a constant severe headache right at the back of my head at the top of my neck, with matters getting worse my gp sent me straight to hospital. the doctor suggested doing an xray (he admitted only showed bone) a ct scan and lumber puncture, they suspected a bleed in head. they did the xray and told me i must have damage in my neck, no ct scan was offered. thing is how can they be sure i dont have a bleed in the head? what symptons would one show? i feel unsatisfied and worried how can they dismiss a bleed without further tests, i thought a scan would be done to at least rule it out, please help me i am so worried

hi and ty for ur reply, i was taking diazapan for which made me like a zombie, my gp told me to wean myself off them for which i have done. i have diclofenac sodium 50mg pills which i take 3 times a day. i spent two days without the pills to see if the pain was gone, the symptoms all returned so now i am once again taking the pills, i have also been using a tens machine twice a day, in all honesty dont think its helping but i use it to try. i am taking things easy, but i am an active person and hate sitting about all day, i am resting as much as poss and taking all walking etc at a slow steady pace. i will learn more i hope when i finally get the hosp appt
many thanks

Hi,

How are you?
Your symptoms seem to be related to the neck injury. Yes a CT scan will help in diagnosing the extent and level of injury.
I would suggest you to take bed rest, do not exert yourself, apply cold packs to the back of your neck and take oral pain killers.
Meanwhile schedule an appointment with a neurologist and undergo a complete evaluation.
Take care!

hi n ty for ur post, i am awaiting a hospital appointment for which they want to look into accupunture (not sure on spelling) or an injection, i want more answers b4 they do either of the above, i have decided that when the appt comes thru im gonna insist on scan so i know exactly what "neck injury/damage" there is. from the start they mentioned a bleed in the head and yet soon dismissed it after simply doing an xray, im far from happy with this and am annoyed at myself for not demanding more answers, but i certainly will when i go again. i just hope i dont have to wait too much longer for the appointment.

You may want to go to a Orthopedic Surgeon, they would certainly look into the "Neck Injury" and provide you with more answers and possibly/most likely send you for an MRI, etc....

Don't give up, if you have to, go to another hospital.  Sometimes people are quick to dismiss and not provide you with the help you need and deserve.

Good Luck!

today i am feeling worse i feel like im in a trance despite me not taking any of the medication, my head feel heavy at the back and feels as if the neck is struggling to support it. on discharge from hospital after xrays all i was told is that the bones are all fine, and i simply had a neck injury, of what nature was never told, i am non the wiser. i am confused, worried and desperate what can u suggest ?

Hi,

How are you?
Yes a CT scan offers better visualization than X ray and it helps in diagnosing stroke and brain hemorrhage.
Was there a positive finding in the X ray of head and neck?
Brain hemorrhage or brain bleed is a severe type of stroke and the symptoms depend upon the part of brain involved apart from symptoms of raised intracranial pressure like headache, blurry vision and dizziness.
