You may want to consider asking your Doctor about Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Temporal Arteritis (Giant cell arteritis)

This causes a burning or bruised sensation above the ears in the temple area with a headache type sensation. I would ask quickly if he experiences whooshing noises in ear. Especially if the veins in that area appear swollen

They can run some basic tests like ESR, CK levels, Rheumatoid factor which will check for inflammation. PR and TA usually go hand in hand with each other. It mostly occurs in people over 50 but there have been cases of it happening at a much younger age. Things like Adenovirus or other infections trigger this to happen and sometimes caused by genetic factors.

Re: Your posting on May 3rd about scalp and temple pain
I have the same exact symptoms minus the accident/injury to possibly explain it. I'm so frustrated. Have you found out any answers?
