MRI Report?

I had a MRI done last week.  Would you please translate this report into "normal English" for me?

"...reveals the presence of a few scattered high signal foci in the deep white matter bilaterally on T2 weighted images and FLAIR without corresponding findings of T1 weighted images.  These are primarily periventricular nature although there is some extension into the centrum semiovale. Similar changes are noted in the brainstem. There is no associated mass effect or edema.  This is a nonspecific finding but, in a patient of this age, this most likely is secondary to age related change/microischemic change.

IMPRESSION:  Nonspecific white matter changes which most likely reflects age related/chronic ischemic change."

I am 49yo and have suffered severely from migraine since infant/toddler years.

Thank you so much for your time and help!

Ali

Hi,

What was the indication for your MRI scan ?

Your MRI scan does not show any intracranial involvement. There are no swelling that may point to an increased intracranial pressure, no masses, no large bleeds. In short, there is nothing that needs any immediate intervention at the moment. The findings simply suggest that there are slight changes in the brain tissue probably brought about by periods of decreased blood flow. This is nothing like a stroke as it may be something associated with aging.

There is nothing to worry here. Just continue close consult with your physician. For severe headaches associated with vomiting, weakness and visual symptoms, an immediate consult is necessary.

It means you have low oxygen flowing to that part of the brain. (microschemic). Like they said it could be just because of your age. But check with your doctor to see if its a situation that needs to be taking care of immediately

Do you have a follow up appointment.
