Please Help

My husband has had a severe headache for the last 3 days in the back of his head. He says it feels like a burning pain. At times he trys to dig into his head and pull something out. He says he knows if what ever is there could be removed he would feel better. He will not go to the hospital and our doctor is out of town. He is having severe confusion and is very disoriented at times. Doesn't even now who I am at times. At times it seems like he is having seizure activity.  He gets a severe pain and then things change he doesn't know who I am, or even where he is at. This confusion can last from anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. When he comes back to reality he thinks I am crazy when I try to talk to him about what happened. He insist that he has been sleeping. The headache never goes away. It just intensifies at time. What do you think could be causing this.

Hi

He had a history of mild stroke and a cerebrovascular problem has to be ruled out first. His symptoms appeared to be neurologic in nature and a history of a stroke may warrant further evaluation along this line. The medications may not be contributory here. Is his blood pressure well maintained? Have you informed his physician with regards to stopping his medications?

My husband is only 33. He was in ICU last month with a hypertensive crisis when they say he had a mild stroke. He tested clean for drug abuse. The only thing they changed since he has been home was they put him on Diovan HTCZ to help lower is blood pressure.  I had him stop taking the medication and he seems to be doing better now. I set him up a doctors appointment for Thursday. I don't know if it was the medication but he seems like he has improved. Thank you for answering my question.

Hi.

How old is your husband?

Does he have any underlying disease conditions like diabetes or hypertension?

As this may be relevant to your post, allow me to ask if there is any history of drug use or intake of maintenance medications?

I feel that you husband requires further evaluation. An underlying seizure disorder has to be ruled out. Also some conditions such as hormonal imbalance, hematologic and cardiac disorders may also cause a change in sensorium ,headaches and other conditions.

Persuade him to see a doctor. A complete physical , neurologic and mental status examination are necessary.
