My Daughter and Headaches that are severe

My Daughter is 10, She started having really bad headaches about 9 months ago, They come on all of a sudden and she just grabs her head and screams. We took her to the er and they gave her Topamax 25 mg and something for pain. They ran a MRI and a EEG and said they think she is having Seizures that are coming on as headaches. I cant get anything out of the doctor here other than telling me to give her the meds. Can anyone tell me what this is called? and what kind of doctor she needs to be seeing? Keeping her as calm as we can seems to help and they seem to come on anytime she gets upset? Im confused and want to help her in anyway that I can

thank you
Becca

Hello my name is Anne and I have some information to give you. My daughter is three and has had similar experiences as yours. We also were told they were seizures and to put her on meds. I felt the same way you are and its not been until now that I'm beginning to understand. My husband is in school to be a nurse and he has learned that these 'episodes' are a mild form of epilepsy which is a form of a seizure. They can range anywhere from mild to severe. It is important to get her in to a neurologist because although they may be mild it could most definitally be causing the damage a severe seizure could cause. I have not yet to take Emma in but I do feel better with that knowledge. If you would like to know more let me know how I can help.

Hi ,
I am well today, We have noticed that when she gets upset it will come on all of a sudden. We are going to start the diary so that we can have a log so to speak for the doctor, I am going to request she see a specialist. They said that nothing came up on the EEG but they still say they are seizures. Its very scary for myself as well as my baby. She doesnt sleep well alot of the time she is up most of the night. I have tried warm milk and IM going to start trying sleepy time tea which has  been used in my family for years =) I hope there is a end in sight, It has gotten to the point where I am homeschooling because she was missing so much school. I feel for her and want her life back the way it was. Thank you so much for the info and help

Hi,

How are you?
It is very difficult to tell exactly what is causing these headaches without a clinical exam. It is quite possible that she is having seizures which are manifesting as headache.
Are you aware of any positive finding in the EEG report?
Other possibilities can be migraine and cluster headaches. Are these headaches one sided and throbbing in nature?
Have you been able to identify a trigger for these headaches? I would suggest you to ask her to maintain a headache diary as this will in identifying a trigger.
Also make sure she exercises daily and eats and sleeps well.
