OCULAR MIGRAINES?

maybe you can shed light on this, my girlfriend has been seeing pulsating spots mainly in her peripheral vision since she had an endometrial ablasion done two years ago, she bled heavily prior to that and thats why the procedure was done.she sees these spots 24/7 more in the light and less in a dimly lit room. a neurologist gave her topomax to try, she thought it was helping but couldnt tolerate the drug. her primary doctor gave her metropolol but no real help.she has ne headaches, just the purple pulsating spots. does anyone have a clue what this is? is it related to the heavy bleeding/ menopause/ etc? her eyes are also dry and cloudy at times. thx for your time

yes actually, she is severely nearsighted, and has weak retinas.had this condition since birth.she has had both mri and mra of her brain.
one dr said it could be onset of perimenopause? another dr thinks could be tortuous arteries beneath the retina. but maybe the mra couldve shown that? anyway. is there any other meds to try?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

Was an MRI done?

During the operation was there a lot of bleeding and blood loss? Did she lose consciousness?

I suggest that you have her referred to an ophthalmologist. This will help rule out localized eye conditions. Migraine may be a differential here and it may still be considered in the absence of headaches. However, it is essential that a baseline MRI be done to rule out involvement of underlying structures.

Any other symptoms ?

Any blurring of vision? Eye pain?
