Topamax

My wife takes topamax for migranes. She also takes Lexapro. She has lost a tremendous amount of weight. She is 5'6" and weighs just over 100 pounds. Should she look at other medicines?

Also has recently had some sudden mood swings. What are some suggestions?

Jeepers, I'm on Topamax and Lexapro also. I've only managed to lose 4 lbs in the past 2 years. I take 100 mg Topamax, 10 mg Lexapro. My balance seems to be getting worse on Topamax, I've even fallen down a few times, like tipping over!

My doctors would love to see me lose more weight, I'm overweight and a diabetic..no good. I don't even eat much, just can't lose weight. I can't talk well on Topamax, I say goofy things, like red when I mean blue. It's making me somewhat aphasic. : (

I have suffered from major migraines for just over 8 years . With in the last 3 years they have put me on 200 mg of topamax. I still get massive headaches , and yes  the weightloss  from the topamax, but the other side effects are that of forgetting things, walking into walls and feeling foggy all the time. The dr have since found that I have a tumor in the right frontal cortex of my brain. they are saying it is not what is causing my heaches  but it is why i am gettng them so increasingly with treatments

I have been taking lexapro and topamax for a year or so.  I haven't noticed much of a difference when taking the topamax (good or bad) I still get the migranes. But the lexapro sometimes makes me foggy. I am 5'1 and 175 I have actually gained weight not lost it.

Topamax either works well for patients or it doesn't.  I know from personal experiance that I became very forgetful and felt cloudy and confused most of the time... no wonder I lost weight!
Topamax isn't the "cure" to losing weight.... unfortunately I know  a lot of people are on medications that tend to add on the weight.
Has your wife tried Lyrica?  or Limbrel.  These are two medications I would suggest that you look into.

I am 200 lbs over weight (350) and 5'6" tall. Age 50. I take 40 mg of Lexapro.  I have high blood pressure and take Enalipril and Amlodipine for the BP.  I have restless legs most of the time and get terrible headaches with nausea and light sensitivity at least once a month.  Would Topamax along with the Lexapro (which works well) help me?  If so, how do I find a local physician (No. Virginia) that believes in combining these meds?

Thank you

Hello.

Topamax is known for two important side effects..... weight loss and depression.

I would like to know what is the dose of Lexapro. The current dose might not be sufficient to control her depressive symptoms. Mood swings may occur in patients taking Lexapro.

I would suggest a consultation with her psychiatrist.

Regards
