I am 50. Feel more like 90 the past few weks. Dr. refered mine as a complex migarine. I had several test done, and all were clear. I'm confused. I'm off work until the 1st of March. Money is tight. Depression is high. I will talk to you again soon.

I wanted to respond to you because I know how you feel. It all started 3 months after my daughter was born in 2004. I woke up one morning thinking I had the beginnings of a stroke. My left eye was droopy and I felt weird. I drove to work and by the time I got there I had slurred speech, noodle legs, and I zoned out. I was sent to the hospital for stroke symptoms and kept overnight for testing. I was checked for MS and stoke, but all was clear. They told me that I was having Atypical migraines or "silent migraines" that can cause stroke like symptoms without the head pain. I have been to 2 neuro's and have been told the same thing. I am trying to change my diet and I am going to see a hematologist to get my anemia under control. My new neuro gave me a script for amitryptiline so I will see how this works. Did they give you anything for the "headaches"? My neurological symptoms last for weeks even months. I am fatigued all of the time and feel like I am too young to feel this way. I have a 3 year old and an 11 month old and need all the energy I can get. I hope you figure something out. Have you been to a neurologist yet? If not, I would see one. They know more about these complicated headaches than a PCP does. Also, how old are you? If you are young you should not have even had a small stroke. I would definately get in with a neuro before it happens again. Hope this helps, let me know anytime you need to vent, I know how you feel and will be here to listen.

Hi,
Were you able to undergo cardiac evaluation ? Was a 2D echo done? Carotid doppler scans and also duplex scans of the extremities? Is there a strong family history of stroke or thrombotic disorders? Were coagulation tests done?
It is important to have all these evaluated since some migraines which are complicated may be difficult to differentiate from a cerebrovascular disorder. A previous small stroke as shown by your scan should suggest a closer supervision and a more thorough assessment.
Hemiplegic migraines may present with neurologic deficits that may last for hours to days. However, they should be reversible. It is important that any underlying disorder has been ruled out before this diagnosis is given. With this type of migraine, you should discuss with your physician how this will affect your quality of life and your daily performance.
Do keep us posted.
