headace

Im having headace from last 3 or 4 days. It started when I was reading my course book and suddenly I realized that its because of readaing. Then I stopped reading but its still there. its not the typical one. I feel that my head is heavy, pressure on my eyes, pain behind my ears, pain in my forehead and behind....means portion above the neck..
and pain is more at night, but when i sleep it vanishes..and when i wake up at morning it starts 10 min later. Secondly i feel dizzy sometimes.

i want to ask that is it due to anxiety or is it sinus headace..? beacuse i have both problems anxiety as well as the allergy from dust...!

Hello,
That is great! If you have postnasal drip from allergies, try to avoid the things you can be allergic to- dust, smoke, pollen, pets, chemical fumes and a lot of other substances. The allergy test is a good idea.  Continue your medications and hope to hear from you again for some updates. Take care always.

Hi,
It is good that you went to see your doctor. Post-nasal drip occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. This can be caused by rhinitis or sinusitis. Continue with the medications prescribed and observe if there is any symptomatic relief.  We will be praying for your speedy recovery. Do keep us posted. Take care always.

Hi sadia628

Thank you for keeping us updating on how you are doing. I am sorry that you are still feeling so unwell.

Have you seen a doctor since you last wrote to us? Did the doctor have any suggestions on what was wrong? I know that you said you did not get any blood tests done yet, but I was still wondering if you have seen a doctor at all? Sometimes a doctor can suggest what is wrong without blood tests, or at least prescribe a medication to help with some of the symptoms. That is why I am wondering if you have seen a doctor.

Headaches can be caused by many things. There are two general categories of headaches: Primary Headaches (also called idiopathic headaches) and Secondary Headaches (also called symptomatic headaches).

Primary Headaches are not caused by anything other than the headache itself. The headache is the disease in a primary headache. Example of primary headaches are: migraine, tension-type and cluster headaches.

When you have a Primary Headache, nothing is wrong other than the headache. The headache is what is wrong, and you need treatment for the headache.

First line treatment for acute migraine attacks is often a class of medication called triptans. First line treatment for acute tension-type headaches are often simple OTC analgesics, OTC analgesics combined with caffeine, prescription NSAIDS or barbiturates. The first line treatment of cluster headaches is often medical oxygen; specific fast-acting triptans such as Imitrex Injection or Zomig Nasal Spray; lidocaine nasal spray; and DHE injection or nasal spray.

In a Secondary Headache, the headache is a symptom of an underlying disease, illness or injury. A headache could be caused by some sort of trauma to the body, especially to the head or neck. A headache could be caused by medications, such as "rebound headaches" or by other substances such as "hangover headaches". Headaches can also be caused by infection, such as Sinusitis-related headaches. Or, more serious infection such as meningitis. Headaches can also be caused by other problems in the body. An example of a headache being caused by another issue in the body would be a dental issue, such as TMJ-related headaches.

In order to treat secondary headaches, it is important for a doctor to diagnose the underlying disease, illness or injury that is causing the headache. Then it is important to cure, treat or manage the underlying disease, illness or injury that is causing the headache. In some cases, analgesics may be used prior to treatment or during treatment in order to address the headache symptom until the underlying disease, illness or injury is cured, treated or managed. You should always follow both your doctor's and pharmacist's advice on what medications to take as well as how and when to take your medication.

I really wish I could help, but I really think you need to see a doctor, because there are so many diseases out there that absolutely must be ruled out first before deciding that it is a primary headache... and none of us can diagnose you over the internet. Also, once you have your diagnosis, even if it is a primary headache, you will need a prescription from your doctor in order to treat it.

Keep us updated and let us know if you find out what is wrong. I hope that you feel better very soon!!!

Hi,
How are you? It would also help if you can identify the possible triggers that cause your headache. A headache journal may help identify these triggers and you can avoid them in the future. Over-the-counter pain medications may help provide relief.  If it persists, have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper management. You may also want to have your blood tested to rule out anemia which may cause the dizziness. Take care and do keep us posted.

Hi sadia628,

If the pain is always close to your eyes and always on the side of your head, then it is possible that it is a migraine headache.

Migraine headaches often feel like sinus headaches, but really they are migraine headaches.

I would go back to your doctor and discuss the possibility of migraine headache. If it is a migraine headache then you will need a prescription migraine medication.

The first line of treatment for acute migraine attacks are triptans. There are currently seven triptans on the market, plus on triptan that is mixed with an NSAID. In my opinion, the best triptans are the fast acting triptans. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays. The triptan that I use is Zomig Nasal Spray. I have also found success with Maxalt-MLTs in the past. Although all of the seven triptans have been proven effective in clinical trials and different people find different ones effective, so please talk to your doctor about which one would be right for you,

Hope that helps,

- marilee :)

Sounds like a sinus headache.  Maybe a sinus infection?
Try taking a decongestant for a few days and if it doesn't improve, or if you have a fever or have yellow stuff coming out of your nose, go to the doctor.
