Well, stress and workload can be a bad trigger for both migraine headaches and tension-type headaches... but these things are hard to avoid because you can't just quit your job usually! So... it's a good thing to try and find stress-relieving things to do after work... and, if it might be tension-type, to take small breaks, even if it is just to stretch for a few seconds, whenever your mom starts to feel tension in her body at work.

Cold is an odd trigger for migraines... usually cold makes migraines feel better. But, everyone is different and can have different triggers.

If is is a migraine, and one side of the head sounds like a migraine, the it is a good idea for your mom to take triptans instead of pain killers as long as she is not allergic to them. Triptans are a better kind of drug to use for migraines, because they are actual migraine medication and stop the migraine instead of just stopping the pain. Get your mom to ask her doctor for triptans instead of pain killer.

As for dietary changes... make sure she avoids common migraine triggers like:
DO NOT eat cheese
DO NOT drink red wine
DO NOT drink coffee
DO NOT eat chocolate
DO NOT eat foods with MSG

if she finds that not eating these things does not help after two weeks, then she can start eating them again.

also:
TAKE 400mg of magnesium a day (for migraine or tension type)
TAKE 400mg of B2 a day (for migraine)
TAKE 300mg of CoQ10 a day (for migraine)

hope that helps.

What type of headache did the doctor say she had? Migraine? Cluster? Tension-type? Or sinus? It is important to know that before we start making suggestions for life-style changes and possible daily medications... because the treatments will be different depending on the different types of headaches. There are usually no cures for headaches unless the headache is being caused by some fixable physical problem such as a tumor... but, the doctor would have diagnosed such a problem already. So, it is probably one of the other types of headaches such as a migraine, cluster, tension-type or sinus headache. So, that means there is no cure... but, life style changes and medications that can reduce the number of headaches and as well as manage the headaches on an acute basis as well.

But first could you please provide the doctor's diagnosis OR a very complete list of symptoms so that we can try to guess which type of headache it might be (but if we guess, then it will not replace a doctor's diagnosis or advice).
