numbness and tingling

For years i have had migraines.  When they hit when i was younger the would cause the typical symptoms of tunnel vision, spots and nausea that would sometimes lead to vomiting when the pain in my head got too bad.  Now as i have gotten older, i have been to numerous neurologists and have had Cat scans, allergy testing, all kinds of migraine meds and even was sent to the headache clinic to have lydicane shots injected in my head and neck to stop the nerves from causing the migraines.  The problem i have been having that is gradually getting worse is the tingling and numbness in my hands and partial face.  Also at times when the migraine is real bad it will hit my feet.  They will also swell up and i have been experiencing a slight slowness in motor control with my left side arm and slurred speech when this hits.  The pain in my head will hit within 20-30mins after these symptoms hit and it is excruciating.  They can last 3days at a time and hit at least 1 time a week sometimes more.  These symptoms also continue during the migraine.  I am only 34 and i have three kids that count on me.  The doctors have checked for other things like lupus, thyroid and other problems but cannot seem to find anything to stop the symptoms nor the migraines except to put me on narcotics.  Now with all the problems we have with people abusing the drugs they are not even prescribing them.  So i go months with dealing with this getting worse and no solution.  I don't need to be on drugs but i also cannot deal with the pain and the symptoms of losing feeling in parts of me, slurred speech and loss of some of my control of my arm.  Is there something else that i should be having them look for, and have you heard of anything that causes all of these symptoms at once?  I want to be around to watch my kids grow and not find out that i have something that someone over looked.

Vitamin D deficiency can make us feel pain much more intensely, consider taking large doses of Vitamin D. Keep in mind roughly 99% of oral vitamin supplements end up in your urine/toilet. B12 will not make it into your system unless you take it sublingual (under the tongue) or by injection. Try real aspirin in combination with real coca cola. It seems to have just the right combination of sugar to caffiene to blood thinner. If it works, keep an 'emergency pack' in the car, home, office & make certain everyone knows not to touch! If you haven't tried it yet, look into trying nightly topamax. It may not reso;ve your migraines completely, but if it helps you it could reduce them to once a month or so, it could help you sleep, and it also suppresses appetite in some people leading to weight loss. Teach your children to offer to give you massage. If you don't have one and if it is possible for your family, consider getting a small dog and take the dog out for daily walks. I had never considered myself a dog person, but you know what, my dogs have become my life savers! They love & adore unconditionally, stay awake with me when I'm awake and in pain, and most of all get me out in the fresh air for little walks which I never would have realized were as helpful as they truly are.

I hope I have been able to offer some helpful advice, all my best~

Hi,

When was the last time you got a CT scan of the brain and neck done? Tingling numbness could also signify nerve compression.
I would also suggest you to cut down on your day to day stress by doing some form of relaxation exercises like meditation and breathing exercises. Biofeedback therapy also helps in patients with migraine unresponsive to medications.

From gidgetjsg: I have already put myself on a diet and exercise program.  But when i exercise the same swelling, tingling and numbness start up.  Within a short time a migraine is on its way.  I take 2500mg of B12 and a multivitamin everyday.  As for going in a dark quiet room, being a working mom of 3 young kids from the ages10-5, that is almost a certain impossible task.  I have to work to keep the bills paid and my evening are for the kids.  My weight is 189 at 5' 1".  I also suffer from insomnia big time.  I know that the lack of sleep isn't helping either.  The sleeping pills don't work on me for more than 2 hours and then i am back up.  Like i said, I cannot be on all these pills and function for my children.  And i cannot also function with the migraines.  I have gone 6 months right now with no narcotics or sleeping aids and the migraines have not decreased and they are actually intensifying.  There has got to be something that someone is missing.

Hi,
I would suggest you to start with a B complex supplement. Also whenever you start getting these symptoms do go and sit in a dark quiet room. Also try doing breathing exercises during the day. Eat regularly, maintain hydration and do someform of light exercise regularly. Good luck!

I have been dealing with this myself for the past 3 months!! It 1st started in march when I went to the ER with stroke like symptoms, studdering, twitching, left side weakness and I also had seizure like espisodes. I just saw a Neurologist on the 24th of June and he diagnosed me with complicated migraines. He put me on meds one I take daily which is pamalor and he gave me 2 others to take as needed. I know how frustrating this is when it affects your life, I also have 2 kids t hey are 8 and 6 and being a stay at home mom it is hard to do the things I used to do because of my constant headaches. I think you need to see a Neurologist and try some new treatments, I hope you find some relief soon!!
