19 Year Old Son Needs Help

I have a son that has been sick for over a year now. He has been tested for everything possible organically. He has had digestive test, biopsys, genetic tests, blood, stool, eye exams, psychologist, drug tests ect. He STILL is sick. I can only explain it as extreme fatigue, depression, blurred vision, forgetfulness, feeling of uneasiness. He will sometimes eat something and I see under his eyes get dark and he needs to go sleep. He put himself on a six month no dairy, grains, sugar. He only ate meat and vegetables. He is very health oriented and takes vitamins, excercises, lifts weights ect. Sometimes he felt "better" but never great. He has had MRIs on his intestine with barium. Biopsys on his stomach and intestine. Xrays on chest and multiple blood tests. The ONLY thing they havent scanned is his brain. He says he can pin point the exact day he woke up and just "felt different." Please help me. I feel my son is loosing his mind. He is currently going to a psychologist because the doctors say they have checked "everything organically" but I dont see any improvement. He is questioning his life, religion and seems to be slipping away day by day. He is just so tired of feeling this way and I feel as a mother I have exausted every avenue. What can I do or go next?

I am sorry about your sons condition. I was wondering if he is taking an antidepressant.. Sometimes people experience stress somatically which stress actually manifests itself with physical symptoms...   I also think you should advocate for his brain to be scanned just so you can be at ease.. I will pray for you both... I think seeing a Psychiatrist is a positive next step.. I sure hope he feels better and that God reveals the problem so the solution can be obtained.

Hi-
I have similar symptoms and was recently diagnosed with dysautonomia.  There are some easy tests for some forms of dysautonomia so should be worth a try.  If you have or can borrow a blood pressure machine, measure his blood pressure and pulse while sitting down, then after one minute standing up and five minutes standing up.  If his pulse goes up >30 bpm or his blood pressure drops, he may have a problem with his autonomic nervous system. It's not deadly and many people are helped with lifestyle changes and medications.   Unfortunately it doesn't show up with any standard blood tests so is easily missed by doctors.

Even if you don't have a positive result with this test, it's definitely worth seeing a neurologist about his symptoms.

Cheers,
Anne
